I recently purchased a japanese sega saturn, but so far all I've had is problems.
When I start it up the game disc will not read (goes to cdplayer)
When I examine the part that is supposed to make the CD spin, there is some resistance in moving it. It's not moving as freely as it does on my european version.
So, anyone had similair problems? Any tips to make it work?
There probably some pods on the mothrboard somewhere to give it some more juice, but I would look into the matter before trying.
Does it read normal music cd's?
I have not yet fiddled around with it, and if it isnt likely I can get it working Ill try to return it. Thats why I threw out the question, to see if anyone have had any similair problems.
The thing is, it took 2 months for it to get here (I was cheap on the shipping) so I would rather it worked than returning it and buying another one.. I have stocked up on some new games I want to play
Ill get back in a couple of days, thanks for now!
yeash, so I had time to look at it now. The problem is that for some reason the CD cannot spin unhindered. It touches the system, so when the CD tries to spin it up it just wont. I guess I somehow have to move around the drive part until the disc can spin properly. Really strange, I wonder how this could happen?
I dont know if Im explaining the problem very clearly, but yeah..
yeah, as I said its really strange. I can actually make my games work perfectly if I just ease the disc a millimeter or so up the part that holds it (spindle?)
I guess I have to open up the unit to fix this permanently
Hmm, so it seems like the spindle is not gripping the disc tightly until you lift it slightly. You could perhaps make/find a spacer (washer) of suitable size diameter/thickness and attach (glue!) it to the spindle for the disc to sit on top at the correct height. Might not be the most elegant solution, but if it works, and saves having to open the thing up...
as a note playing with the pot adjustment is playing with fire (you can cook the laser, though not as easy as next gen hardware). make sure you mark it's location before any adjustment. If possible find the correct adjustment range and use a multitester tool.

sorry, disregard last post, sound like the spindle is slightly pushed down, easy fix. Open sytem and gently lift spindle with two credit cards on each side until the disc just clears. Go back and check each time by reinstalling the cover each time you adjust. Take your time and be patient.
As a not the spindle is pressed on the shaft, and can be moved. It can get all messed up if someone is rough

Hey thanks, I'll try this tonight. It sounds as if you've encountered this before?
So if I'm careful there's no big risk of really messing up?
Thanks again
