So why exactly does Cave not want to port anymore?

The point of gamerscore is to sell or rent out more games, so it makes sense that it boils down to just collection.
Microsoft has absolutely no checking for whether the achievements are actually challenging or not, or whether or not they're actually feasible. The Smash TV achievement, using no continues the entire way, is virtually impossible while scoring a basket in the first NBA game nets you twice that many gamerpoints.

Oh, as would I. I'd gladly pay for legal ports of Ketsui, ESP.ra.de, Dangun, etc... but I guess I'll be sticking to MAME for now on, thanks to Cave's determination to be obscure. Sure, they're a niche developer, but their console ports have gotten them exposure and sales. Think, most of the people (in Japan, where sales matter) buying DDP DOJ, Galuda, Mushi, Ibara, etc, have probably already more than paid for the game in arcade plays alone, and are buying the game not only for collective purposes, but to practice up and play more in the arcades. All in all, you'd think Cave would be losing money in not porting, but what do I know, I'm just a consumer; not their native target demographic, but still.Battlesmurf wrote:Fuck you, Cave. Fuck you in your hairless, flaccid assholes.
I laughed at this...but what is a flaccid asshole? (lol..don't answer this...).
On the topic at hand: I would pay out the ass (a flaccid one, even) for a Ketsui, Dangun, DDP2,DDPDOJ, Mushi, Muchi, etc etc "Collector's Edition"- maybe even 2 games per volume...Cave has such a wonderful backlog of games it's not even funny! I would almost think that even with slow sales, they have enough games that there's money to be had.
And to answer your question, which you asked me not to answer: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/flaccid
I don't want to go into obscenities, but if Cave's porting really has gone the way of the dodo, they've kinda reemed themselves into a state of prolapse beyond the help of any rectal reconstructive surgery. :/

Or some western teenagers who start drawing manga and think they´ll become famous with that there because hey, Japan doesn´t have enough talented artists already! Some people think Japan is a place where everybody is polite and riding dragons and doing magic and shit. Most westerners would go crazy in their ultra-competetive society.

Westerners are not apart of it, regardless of how long they have or haven't lived in Japan. Life for a westerner is quite easy. Less hours. More money. Not expected to follow any rules of social structure. Etc, etc. Japan is best enjoyed when not Japanese. Most westerners would go crazy in their ultra-competetive society.
On that note, the games and anime may draw someone in. Rarely is that the reason why they'll stay. I watched anime back in the day when I studied, but by the time I actually mvoed here, I watched zero, and played no games. Didn't start playing games until a few years in when I needed something to keep me out of clubs.

I can´t see what or who that is, but the combination of art and eye patches makes me instantly hate it. Our illustration school is right next to an art school, and every time I visit their stupid artsy exhibitions I really learned to avoid the term "art" whenever I talk about illustration. I just hate all this fuzzy gestures and self-importance.Never_Scurred wrote:

Haha, I know exactly what you're talking about. Ever been to one of the parties at Lerchenfeld? If you talk to those people or just overhear some of their conversations... lol
That's why I used to cringe whenever some people (e.g. relatives) said to me "So, I understand that you're doing 'something with art'". I usually responded something along the lines of "Not at all. I'm painting pictures for money. It has more to do with prostitution than art."
(Sorry, BulletMagnet, please don't feel offended. I have nothing against art at all (in fact, there's a lot of art I thoroughly enjoy), just against the very group of people Fred describes (although, admittedly, back in the days when I studied at his school there used to be plenty of those attending the courses of Prof. Stoye as well).)

Yeh this is the impression I got when I was visiting Japan a few months back. Whilst there we drank in a few bars run by ex-pats, well when I say 'run' one of the guys was telling us he only works there occasionaly to socialise and get free drink, he doesn't have to lift a finger if he doesn't want. Whilst there we'd only pay for drinks till closing time then he'd lock in and supply us with free booze till ungodly hours in the morning. During this time he'd tell us stories about his life in Japan and those of his friends and it definately sounded like they get away with anything and their life is basically just one big doss. It was also pretty obvious from what he was saying that despite the fact most of them have lived there for 20 years plus that they never have and never will be accepted as part of the greater Japanese community despite speaking near perfect Japanese and having many Japanese friends. They all seemed like nice enough chaps but there was no doubt that many of them were taking advantage of the situation regarding westerners over there.GaijinPunch wrote:Westerners are not apart of it, regardless of how long they have or haven't lived in Japan. I find it somewhat supprising that the Japanese can be so intolerant and yet so tolerant of westerners if you see what I mean. I think I can see where some of this attitude comes from though. For a start it's very difficult to get citizenship in Japan from what I've been told. Walking around the streets of Tokyo it was very rare to see non Japanese people and I think this lack of interaction with other cultures could partly explain the situation. Also when I went to visit the Emporers gardens I got talking to an nice old Japanese man whose spent a lot of time in Europe. We sat and talked for a good 2 or 3 hours and most of that time I was dispelling myths he had about western people and their culture. From what he was saying there is a lot of pro-western propagander in Japan and the people are almost brain washed into believing that we have a perfect society that they should aspire too. We seem to be upheld as idols almost. He discussed how decreasing public morality is considered a big issue in Japan and how they're trying to fix that by using westerners as an example of how things should be done. Many of the things he'd been tought to believe about us simply wasn't true though. It goes to show how strongly these beliefs must be imprinted into these people if they dont even see the truth for themselves after spending time in Europe. In a way I think the Japanese are almost scared of westerners because of all of this.

I think there is this idea that black people are all really bushmen from Africa, or else Bob Sapp. I don't think most Japanese have ever seen a real live black person. Seeing a white person is kind of rare over there. I am reminded of the Pink Sweets pimp guy towering over everyone.FrederikJurk wrote: But to get back to the Japan stuff: What is it with this racism against black people there? I don't understand why each Cave game needs a totally seperate emulation?
The last neo geo games were ported to MAME in 10 minutes. Therefore, wouldn't it be equal to SH2 or 3 games just needing the architecture being emulated so that the same code can be reused for each game.
Cave doesn't have the manpower, 3rd parties not interested, console parties have shitty politics = a big damn mess.
Anyway, whinging on this board never solved anything. We can only speculate.

From what I have heard, each Cave game uses a seperate individual encryption routine (unlike CPS2 for example which uses a single encryption/decryption key for every game which uses the hardware). So to emulate each Cave game, you'd have to crack each game's individual encryption.neorichieb1971 wrote:I don't understand why each Cave game needs a totally seperate emulation?

I have no idea if this is correct, it's just what I've heard. But if it is true, then the only thing stopping emulation of each game is the strength of the encryption, and the work involved in cracking the code could take forever.

I laughed at this post. Not because it was funny (because it isn't) but because it's kind of ironic how you can call someone childish when you use the term "faggot" three times in one post, and structure an argument like a ten-year old.roker wrote:1. you have a faggot user name
