Gradus 3 different versions

Post by RotateMe »

Which one is regarded the official arcade version? If this doesn't exist, which one is played the most? I recognized that it helps very much to play the slightly easier Asien version after training on the normal PS2 port (which is like the J or World? version I guess).

Another question: Is the PAL-PS2 port slower (not in terms of the "Wait" option slower, just fewer FPS), or is the PS2 port in general slower or does my MAME just run too fast?

I couldn't find another fitting Gradius III port so sorry for opening up another one, but after watching tviks' genious run I feel like having another go with this game.

Gradis? What's that?

Which one is regarded as the official arcade version? Why, the one that appeared in arcades. In your region, most likely. For compilations, probably the Japanese one, or whichever one is easiest to port/available to compilation programmers.

Wait, so you actually got the replay working? Anyway, I'm happy that I've inspired you to play this game/series. Excellent choice, sir. :)

The PAL version of Gradius 3 & 4 doesn't have the 60hz option so the game is naturally a bit slower, just like all PAL 50hz games (yet the screen looks very crappy). The Gradius 3 version there is the original japanese version, but it's code has slight changes, such as the problem with the stage 10 lasers at the end. So who knows which version is the most "official" one, if there is one.

Yup I got it working. Just watched it and didn't minimize and reopen MAME. Didn't watch it to the end but probably more than I will ever see playing the game myself.

The thing with the 50hz PAL version sucks, because it means I would have to buy the NTSC or NTSC-J version to play this on my TV :(

Thanks for the answers.
