My latest & last Gradius 3 arcade record

Post by tviks »

I was content for quite a long time with my 3-7 & 1st loop with speedups runs, but I knew I wasn't done with this game yet. Today however, I think I am.

I know I've talked before about counter-stopping this game, but after reaching stage 6-5 this morning, I think I've made my point by beating a few max difficulty loops. I feel very sick and exhausted and thought that something would probably break inside if I just kept going on.

The final score was something over 3 million. I have the inp-replay but it is currently only available on the Gamestone forums if you have an account. So any ideas where should I upload it?

Congrats sir, I'm still working on my first loop in this game.

If you want you can mail me the file and I'll upload it, but you might be able to find something better because I've just got webspace on a german server which also has a traffic limit of 1gb I think. If you want though just PM me.

What's with megaupload or stupid stuff like that? I think it would be okay to upload it if it is only a small file.

I've chucked it up on my FTP for you. It'll stay there permanently (unless you ever want me to take it down), so feel free to pass the link around as much as you like.

Oh, and congratulations!

Edit: I'm getting a constant cycle of test screens when I try to watch this. I have all of the appropriate G3 ROMs in place, too. Reckon my Asia version could be a dud one? If anyone wants to email me a version that definitely works, I'll throw that up on the FTP for anyone who's having the same problem. Cheers!

Thanks for uploading.

I tried to watch it but in 1-10 you died at the part where you have to dodge the bumping brains and shoot your way through the organic walls. You keep on dying after that (flying around senselessly and shooting at nothing). The two deaths before in the loop are intended to be there I think (it must be, because you keep on playing well after that), but in 1-10 it messed up though. I will watch it one more time but my hopes are low that it will work this time, I've seen too many .inps to hope for a better result. Maybe I just have the wrong version or something.

I can't get this inp to work in Mame32 0.116u2 even. What did you use normal command line Mame 0.116 or something else?

From what he told me, latest MAME32Plus is what he used to record the input.

Oh goddamit. As if the game wanted to just have the last "fuck you" at me. I'm quite drunk right now but by tomorrow, if you still haven't got it to work, I guess I got to upload the emulator that I used.

Latest MAMEPlus.´0.116u4 I think this is. It worked fine till 1-10, didn't come to try another time. Maybe it fucked up because I used frameskipping and speeding up at some points and changed from window to full view several times. I hope so. I will try again when I'm home.

Sick Tviks. Just wish you had recorded with WolfMAME so you could have had a permanent record over at MARP.

So is the replay working for anybody? Here's the exact version that I used:

Strange, there was never any problem with my previous replays.

2.543.550 beginner mode

1.279.370 beginner mode

3-1 POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE

3-2 POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE

2-9 POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE

3-2 POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE

2-10 POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE

Gemant lists the Arcadia World Records for Gradius III by type. All WRs have POSSIBLE INFINITE SCORE written against them, BUT tviks' loop 6-5 smashes the Japanese distance records :!:

As you can see above, the Japanese WRs max out at loop 3-2.

So I would put tviks' loop 6-5 as the definitive World Record on Gradius III.

I had the exact version tviks pointed out when watching it for the first time, but like I said, it desynchronized somewhere in 1-10. I had no time to watch it again for now, so could anybody try this maybe?

Another question to tviks: did you enter any codes before sarting the game? I saw you had a few more lives than usual when starting the game and your bomb setup was new to me for Gradius III. Or is this just because of the korean version?

I had the dip switch settings to have 7 starting lives (just like in my speedups only replay), although that really didn't make any difference. And the Type B. with the spread bomb has always been my choice for the arcade version.

Is the WolfMame the emulator which has pause and autofire disabled to perfectly emulate arcade conditions? Sorry but I just didn't feel like having to quit the game if I had to take a shit or something. Yeah, with these conditions you can't compare it to a real arcade record, so no MARP or Arcadia entry for me.

The replay is working perfectly for me, even if I use the regular Mame and press F10 and alter the frameskipping. The replay is too long to make it into a proper video file too. The only difference to my previous replays is that I'm using a newer PC right now. I wonder if it has something to do with the soundcard or something. I'm really out of ideas.

Or do any of you have a dual core processor? Maybe that could be the cause too? I don't know.

For other uses, see Appellation (disambiguation)
"An appellation is a geographical-based term used to identify where the grapes for a wine were grown. The rules that govern appellations are dependent on the country in which the wine was produced."

disambiguation..? Ambiguous - non-ambiguous...Ok I'm starting to understand...hold on...

Disambiguation in Wikipedia is the process of resolving conflicts in article titles that occur when a single term can be associated with more than one topic. In many cases, this same word or phrase is the natural title of more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to different topic pages that could have essentially the same term as their title.

Getting there...I'M GIVE UP = Engrish...getting closer..

TECHNICAL MONKEY = Gemant's Arcadia WR Listings.

ergo;

From a default start a loop 6-5 would be a WR Distance. Ignoring Japanese scoring tricks. In other words, Gradius III is a multi looping game where distance matters more than score.

tviks wrote;

Your Gradius V records were from score attack mode (pure default) so you didn't need to change the setting on Gradius III, you could have achieved it with 3 lives start I'm sure  .

Those cunning Konami bastards

Bah, it looked ok when I posted, due to the browser cache no doubt..

Changed pic link to site link.

EDIT - seems that site doesn't even like you linking to individual game pages

Oh, silly me, now I get it. I knew it was Engrish but the fact that 'Appellations' is actually an English word  threw me.

Cheers,
