Hi
I have bought Gradius Gaiden on eBay. I realize after buying it that it's the book version? What does that meant?

Description:
Publisher: Konami
Item Name: Gradius Gaiden (Book Version) Playstation
Condition: Brand new condition
Version: For Japan only (NTSC/J)

Here's a link to the auction:

Thanks for the info! I kew I would have a quick answer here :)

I wish I could go back and buy the other version instead but anyway. I can still play the original game that's what's important for now.

"PSone Books" is the name of a series of Japanese re-releases that came out after the introduction of the PSone. The games themselves are identical, they were just sold in slim cases with new covers at a cheaper price, afaik. Several of the best selling PS1 games were re-released as PSone Book, like Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy VII, Twinbee Deluxe Pack, King of Fighters '98 etc.

At first, I thought that I had bought a book! :x

If I really like the game, one day I will try to put my hand on the original release.

I see there's a Playstation Best version, I assume it's something similar before the PSone Books arrived...

Sorry to say it, but at 40 USD + 8 USD shipping you got ripped off badly.

You could have bought it for 27.50 USD shipped: Gradius Gaiden PSOne Book version at Play Asia

Yes I know! I thought it was the original game, new and sealed... That's why I regret it... If I could go back I would not buy it. But I can't change it :S

Well, look at it from this point of view: You got one of the best horizontal shooters there are, and possibly the best Gradius :)

i have the book version too, i quite like it actually, looks pretty cool with the super-slim case if you ask me :)

$40 is a bit on teh expensive side but like ceph said it is one of the best horis out there so in terms of gameplay you wont be dissapointed! :)

from book version: "The pilot of the vic viper didn't know how or why he was chosen over the others, but before he could think, he was in the heat of battle. He wrestled the control yolk while wave after wave of ominous alien craft streaked by. He fired shot after shot of blazing beams into their midst until, finally, as the last one exploded in a hellish blaze, their ramained a huge, squarish, glowing orb. He had a single thing on his mind; Fly into the squarish orb!! He kept firing away, praying that his shots would find their mark. Then, without warning, out of a nearby snowdrift came the most ferocius-looking monster he'd ever seen!! His knuckles were white as he...."

I also have the book version, and the book version of the Twinbee Deluxe Pack too. I like the thin cases. Gradius Gaiden is one of my favorite games in the Gradius series, if not my favorite.

After being dissatisfied with the slim case of the PSOne Books version, and having little luck finding what I wanted on eBay, I got the original version at Play-Asia for not such a good price. Then the next day there was a 20% off sale.

Hows the manual of the PSone books version? It looks like that small case can't house a full sized booklet... but then again it IS a Japanese release... I'd be surprised if they skimped on the quality (i.e. sticking a black and white five page pamphlet or something a la EA!)

I think the PSone books releases are great... I mean, getting the top PSone games still brand new from a store... nothing like the US ('PSone? What's that?') Also considering that the last brand new Gaiden first print hit 10000+y on Y!J Auctions (and the Castlevania game goes for double that in brand new condition!)

Judging from the picture, yours should be 1st print original release. Good deal. One of the best in the series!

The two PSOne Books games I have came with full sized and full colored manuals. The games came shrink wrapped with the manual on the outside of the case.

About play-asia... The only thing refrain me from buying there is that the condition is rarely mentionned most of the time. They have a Gradius Gaiden 1st edition but they don't say if it's in Mint condition or excellent... I don't want a messed up CD...

It was the same thing when I wanted to buy Alien Soldier for the Mega Drive, Play-asia had it but in ??? condition. So I bought it on eBay in Like NEW condition for a few more $$$ and I was very happy!

That's why I jumped on the Gradius Gaiden New & Sealed on eBay, not knowing it was a different version.

I really care about the condition of my game, maybe too much but anyway...

Good price on the original print, I paid twice that price, but don't really regret it at all. The game's condition was very good, the game apparently was well taken care of by it's previous owner.

Mine came in excellent condition, for a good price too. LONG shipping wait from Japan, though. Thanx.
