So why exactly does Cave not want to port anymore?

I don't particularly disagree with the Galuda 2 price...but I think you'd do pretty well to score Guwange for $280. I sold a copy on here for about $450 not that long ago, and I've seen quite a few go for $400.

Fixed for truth. I like how the pcb'ers try to deflate the costs. Lets be real here, not everyone understands the logic in wasting a paycheck on new art and bullet patterns.
Regardless, this sounds pretty much like a lose-lose situation either ways.

What? Galuda 2 hasn't been $700 for a long time.

If you're going to make some stupid assertion like 'pcb'ers always try to deflate the costs' you should probably at least pick the right prices to be snarky about.

Very accurate (NOT inflated!) estimate, Icarus. BTW you can still get a brand new Galuda 2 kit for about $550 shipped from Fujita as well.

Are you sure? More and more obscure Japan-only games are being released on their consoles. First, those Atlus games, and then Majesco with Blast Works and Furu Furu Park. Not to mention all those TG-16 Virtual Console games, how more obscure can you get?

Right. Also notable on the Wii soon are Shin Chuuka Taisen (horizontal shmup due this August in Japan), and the world's first and only port of the NAOMI arcade game Takoron (2D puzzler), which comes out at the end of this month. Both of those are full-fledged releases, not VC downloads. I'm buying a Japanese Wii soon just to play Takoron.

Seems the Wii is the best choice for the 2D arcade-y type stuff on the next-gen systems.

Give in to temptation while the new kits last (and they could sell out any day now)! Worst case scenario, you don't like the game much (doubtful), or you end up needing the money for something else. So you simply sell off the kit then and get all your money back. And then all that time you got to play the kit basically for free.

I'd like to see some Galuda 2 Tateha runs from you Icarus! You were one of the few who played as her seriously in the first game.

That is still one thing that surprises me about Espgaluda. I found Tateha considerably easier to play as due to the slower movement speed and the wide shot making it simpler to pick up seireiseki. The main challenge was scoring, you had to use Laser a lot, and some of the tricks demonstrated by the expert players eluded me (like the single Shot burst to Laser). I'm amazed so few players picked her, but then again, Ageha has the raw power, making it easier to get through the game.

In any rate, I still have to do something about my Espgaluda score. It's on the unfinished business list.

I doubt I'd be much competition in Espgaluda 2. I don't hide the fact that I'm pretty average at Cave, and not as big or as dedicated a player at them as I am Raizing.

I might spring for a kit, but only if it's around $400 or less. My budget does not allow me to go for anything more expensive than $500, sadly (or I'd have Pink Sweets right now).

Tateha's even harder this time around. Getting the gems relies on getting close to enemies... faster movement helps in this situation. Her laser is also much weaker this time around. Her one advantage is she is easier in some parts later in the game where the groups of small enemies come pounding you.

AMI are activly asking MAME to stop emulation of their newer games i.e. DDP++

But who knows, maybe Cave wil release the code for the games under the
GPL or assist in making MAME run them like Taito did.

MAME could easily have done a Ketsui port if they were
allowed and someone helped them get the protected code.

I am sorry guys but don't take this the wrong way but you are talking from you behinds again. There are ways of getting more money with little cost for CAVE but they are simply to lazy to explore them. CAVE can release some of there games using the PS3's downloadable PSX game service. Think about that for a second, it would not even require them to lift a finger because Sony would be doing most of the work for them and we would surely buy them because it would mean cheap and affordable copies of such classics like DoDonPachi without the silly Ebay induced price tag.

Only if you happen to own a JP-Wii, otherwise you're better off just buying the oldschool hardware. You can get a PC Engine on www.japangamestock.com for a ridiculously low price. SNK games are coming to the Wii VC in the US, but most of it will probably their VS brawlers. It still ticks me off that Nintendo saw fit to region lock the VC. :x

I'm getting awfully tempted too. *looks over at shelves to see what games I can sell off to make that $550*

Shame on Nintendo's region locking- they just cost NOA a US system sale. Ghost Squad was the game I wanted a Wii for, but I'm sure there's a Japanese version coming around the same time as the US one.

It'd be nice to see a Wii FreeLoader, but if Nintendo wanted to be lame they could block it with firmware upgrades- requiring the FreeLoader team to start cranking out new versions repeatedly.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

:?: :?: :?:
We're talking out of our behinds?

Read the post about not being able to sell old ass games on current hardware. It is the truth. The only way the masses would buy such games in numbers is through something like Xbox Live Arcade, and there's no way Cave's going to fuck w/ a port to make a few sheckles per download. They're not a console company/. They never were, and likely never will be. They don't sell even their own games. Someone else does. If AMI, their current publisher, or another console-friendly company doesn't want to bother w/ there games, there's probably a very financially motivated explanation.

Japanese Wiis are actually cheaper than the USA ones on ebay. You can get a brand new JP Wii for less than $250 usually. And then you get to enjoy all the JP VC games as well (lots of old school shmups).

That's what I'm going to buy anyway. I have no use for a US Wii.

The problem w/ the JPN Wii is that it doesn't support RGB... not just doesn't have a cable made for it, doesn't fucking output it at all. Great job, Nintendo. You strive to be right in the middle, and achieve just that.

I always thought it was a matter of cabling, but apparently Nintendo went out of their way to make sure RGB was in the PAL model (and not in the NTSC ones). I assume it cost them more in the long run to have it in one type, but not the other.

While I generally agree with you, I don't think danny was making his point very clearly. Cave (or whoever distributed them, dunno the IP involved) already has PSX ports of donpachi and dodonpachi. It would require 0 work on their part to give sony permission to put those games up on the Playstation Network for download to ps3 and psp; the current titles seem to be essentially unmodified psx games.

There are lots of psx shooters up there already - rtypes, rtype delta, raiden, philosoma, cotton - and you know its gotta be financially feasible in terms of little effort for the companies involved, cause the downloads are only like 600 yen. It's not like Cave would be hurting their market for new copies of dp / ddp by doing so . . .

@cody: You'd need to get SPS to approve the downloads, as they own the rights to the PSX ports. As far as I know, they are defunct. So that's probably a big problem.

I don't think anyone's worried about Donpachi, Dodonpachi, or anything else that's been ported to a console. The steam is generated from Progear, Ketsui, and everything past Ibara.

It's supports progressive scan. And there are ways to mod a progressive scan cable and turn it into a RGB cable just as some people have done on the GameCube.
