I was inspired by that other post about beating magician lord and watching the video of the 1cc beating- where I saw a bunch of cool techniques on the bosses- went in the back room and tried them, and now I love that game again.
So, the other game with impossible bosses..... RASTAN! What do you do?
I've never tried any serious technique until yesterday and here's what I came up with.
1st boss- kamikaze slash away (didn't try to hard on him)
2nd boss- duck right in front of him and hit his legs while he jumps back and forth over you!
3rd boss, wizard- wait on the second level and then stab down when you can and be patient.
4th boss big knight- same as the little knight (duck and hit those naked legs) but also stab up when he jumps over you- that guy is hard!
5th boss- I died
Any suggestions?
I want Rastan techniques!
Man, I loved Rastan back in the day as a kid, but a few parts (stupid bats) were wicked cheap! Could never ever beat it!

Eugenics: you know it's right!
It's harder to do on the arcade version, but on both the arcade and SMS versions, you can vanquish many of the bosses quickly by getting above them and doing jumping downward stabs. That move drains their health quickly. It doesn't work on the dragon, though.
My question about Rastan is this -- what's the best way to delay/vanquish the bats in the dungeon levels?

for the bats, I just go as fast as I can, and the try to outrun them for a bit and then turn around and get them. If you can get to a spot where you don't have to go up and down too many ropes (where the screen doesn't move enough to outrun them), then you can slip out of their "closing ring of death"
Funny thing about this game is that when I play it in MAME, the bats always come at me with a vengeance, even if I set the dip switches to 'Easy' mode. I played this game all the time in the arcade as a kid, and I don't remember the bats ever being so aggresive. Maybe it was a hacked game that I played, or something?
uhm
1) Play the japanese version, is more balanced (no 300 bats every three seconds);
2) Learnt to use the jumping slash, i.e. hit adversaries while jumping, does twice the damage (so one jumping hit of axe= four hits damage!);
2-a) Do that tacnique with bosses, finding the exact timing of course;
3) Learnt to cancel enemies (advance, go back, have enemies disappear because of scrolling), and learn to use this for tricky sections with moving platforms;
4) TAKE THE VENOM! It can never kill you, and it's worth 20k a bottle.
5)Be fast, it's a Taito game, not all Taito games are fast-paced (and time out quickly) but most do, including this one.
That's all i can recall, hope it helps.
