One of my personal favorites - the game has some fans on here, but never quite enough to make the Top 25.

Nice game but there are 2 problems:
1. I don't know if it should be even called shmup as there's very little shooting involved. If you just want to blow shit up, this definitively isn't for you.
2. It requires way too many "pixel perfect" maneuvers. You almost never get hit but rather crash into bullets. Luckily, there's slowdown key that makes things a bit better.

I love the gameplay because it relies less on knowledge and more on skill to success. In my opinion it's a very good game to polish your dodging / reading skills on.

I'm terrible at this game, but between the beautiful graphics, hypnotic bullet patterns, and completely berserk soundtrack I just can't get enough of it.

Althought the patterns are nice, I kinda got bored of shooting fairies and random maidens halfway through. I only wish there was more reward to it other than getting to listen to stupid conversations between the people you've just defeated. A little bit more enemy variety would've been nice.

Yeah it's a great game. I am currently running a high score thread on this forum so once you do get the game why not join in the fun! :)

one of the best ZUN's shmups (i DO consider this a shmup)... you cant go wrong with it... and if you happen to buy the previous 2 titles (EoSD and PCB), you'll get enough material to keep you on your toes for awhile.

Well, that depends. I feel that it doesn´t contribute to dodging skills in faster games like Gunbird 2 or Batrider. The patterns can get very complex with a lot of overlapping layers, but most of them are pretty slow. It´s pretty much a subgenre of its own IMHO.

Imperishable Night is a fine game. However... Perfect Cherry Blossom is better ^_^

And I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it, but the music in both games is amazing. ZUN does some really good stuff, but those two have the best OST's IMHO.
