Just received this as a gift and can't wait to play. And now that I know there's a character named Makita I'm double stoked! I've had my trusty Makita screw gun for what seems like centuries.

If anybody's stuck on a stage, a superplay is now available.

If anyone wants to see somewhat crappy shmup skills, but good beat 'em up skills, then watch my speed run.

There are also one or two references to the STGT so you guys don't feel too unloved.

Maybe you should feel unloved. Or Red Star should feel unloved, more like.

Yes, I came back to shmups.com just for this, because I saw your SDA post. ;)

Why hello there, 2007. I didn't see you come in. Have a seat.

I'm catching up on a few PS2 gems I missed early on and Red Star was at the top of my list. I put a few hours into it last night and I'm deeply in love. Glad to hear there's some intense challenge later on -- looking forward to plowing through (or not).

the arena mode you unlock after beating the game is pretty fun too, surprisingly polished for a minigame.

Indeed, this game is tons of fun - especially with 2 people - and can be had for like 5, 10 bucks now easily as far as I know. Well worth it.

Meh. I'm such a whore for 60hz I'll end up importing the game just for it.
Same here. I hate it when they don't include 60hz (=20% slower + squished screen unless it's PAL optimized, which I doubt).
It is optimised. Played both PS2 versions back to back the other night and they are effectively identical.
Of course on the PS2, no 60 Hz means no prog-scanned hi-res either, but that out of the way, PAL version is nothing to be frowned upon.

Seeing this thread reminds me that I own this game and haven't played it in forever. I should probably go and get some co-op action going wtih my friends, heh.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

It would make a great psn title. Mine got stolen when I moved. I'd love to play it again.

Pretty sure there's a dowloadable PSP port. Are two copies of this (and Power Stone Collection) required to play 2 player?
