Anyone here own PS2 Top Gun: Combat Zones??...

Post by dave4shmups »

I own PS1 Air Combat, and what I really like about it is that it plays more like an arcade shooter then a flight sim.

From the Gamespot videos I've watched of Top Gun: Combat Zones, it looks pretty bare bones; like an arcade game. That's the kind of PS2 flight combat game I'm looking for, at least.

Top Gun CZ is pure ass, if for no other reason than your aircraft has infinite vulcan ammo and freely disobeys the physics of flight. It's also incredibly easy and the HUD graphics are completely unrealistic.

"your aircraft has infinite vulcan ammo"

Yeah, but that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for-less realism and more shooting.

I just can't suspend disbelief when I'm in an F-14, flying at 5 mph but not losing altitude, in enemy territory, surrounded by 6 enemy gunships, and nobody's shooting at me. It's just a bad mix of arcade and flight sim. You should be able to find it for $5 or $10 though, so you might as well give it a try.

That's too bad! Is there anything mostly on the arcade side of things for the PS2 that you could recommend?

That's the attraction of Sky Target for me; totally arcade.
