Isn't DDP-DOJ considered to be #3 in Donpachi PCB series?
Did Cave envision the Dopachi arcade PCB series to be a trilogy or quadralogy series ever since the inception of the original Donpachi PCB release in 1995?
When playing a gaming session of DDP-DOJ PCB, sometimes a background pic shows with the words "Donpachi Episode 4" -- so does Dodonpachi II arcade PCB cartridge setup count as well?
And DDP-DOJ is really referred to as "Episode IV" of the famous Dopachi series? (I thought that it was the 3rd one in the series and not counting the "odd-ball" DDP 2 game release.)
I thought that the official chronology timeline went like this:
Donpachi PCB - 1995
Dodonpachi PCB - 1997
Dodonpachi II game cart - ?
Dodonpachi-DOJ PCB - 2002

Ah then, so DDP-DOJ would be listed as number five in the series, right Icarus?Icarus wrote:Batsugun -> Donpachi -> Dodonpachi -> Dodonpachi II -> Dodonpachi Daioujou
But wasn't Batsugun released under the Toaplan arcade label and Donpachi released under the newly formed Cave arcade label group? (I do see your reasoning for listing Batsugun PCB though for completeness & chronological order as to how Donpachi series was born (and honed/refined) from the developement of Batsugun...) ^_~
So if Batsugun was never developed or the project was cancelled for whatever reason, then the Donpachi series would've never been made in the first place -- scary thought to mull over.....
Makes me wonder if Cave did the Donpachi series to pay homage to the greatness that is Batsugun in the first place?

Bee Storm - DoDonPachi II - 2001PC Engine Fan X! wrote: Dodonpachi II game cart - ?
(according to MAWS)
Since it's "Donpachi Episode 4" I would think they're acknowledging Bee Storm as part of the series.
Also according to MAWS, Ikeda worked on Batsugun... it doesn't say anything about head programmer, though.
Programmers : Suki! Suki! Kohchan No-Make, Sigue Hayasato, Tsuneki Ikeda (Ikeda In Naeba), Yoshitatsu Sakai (the 3rd)

Thanks for the heads up on the "Donpachi Episode 4" issue...so Cave does include Bee Storm as part of their Donpachi series franchise then..... ^_~ReKleSS wrote:Bee Storm - DoDonPachi II - 2001PC Engine Fan X! wrote: Dodonpachi II game cart - ?

Will Cave consider doing an "Episode V" of it's revered Donpachi series in the nearby future? (Would catch up to Konami's Gradius V release sequel-wise...)

No. They consider Daioujou as their last of the series.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Will Cave consider doing an "Episode V" of it's revered Donpachi series in the nearby future? (Would catch up to Konami's Gradius V release sequel-wise...)
Unless they do an R-Type Tactics...

Re: Isn't DDP-DOJ considered to be #3 in Donpachi PCB series
I see then, it is with a sad bid adieu to the Donpachi series with the DDP-DOJ PCB -- I shall enjoy it with relish then -- regarded as being an unforgiving arcade shmup title for newbies & seasoned shmuppers like -- still hands me my ass to this day "gameplay-wise"...of course, the old adage of "Practice makes perfect" rings true in the arcade shmup genre (or any other arcade genre for that matter -- i.e. arcade puzzlers, fighters, etc). ^_~Icarus wrote:No. They consider Daioujou as their last of the series.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Will Cave consider doing an "Episode V" of it's revered Donpachi series in the nearby future? Unless they do an R-Type Tactics...
I like how much improved the gameplay mechanics that were brought to the Dodonpachi PCB sequel -- that was a masterpiece of an arcade shmup title to have been created with a labor of love, sweat, and tears...could this last one in the series of DDP-DOJ PCB surpass the legendary DDP PCB in terms of gameplay mechanics, chaining, difficultly factor, etc.? Pretty hard to top when the bar has been set "pretty high" for the DDP PCB as it stands to this very day... ^_~
And would Cave do an R-Type Tactics type of game for it's Donpachi franchise?
Plus, is it possible to select the "blue" colored fightercraft that is shown on the DDP-DOJ PCB high score screen as a "hidden fightercraft" or not? (Would indeed pay homage to both DP & DDP PCBs in terms of selecting one's favorite fightercraft to play through -- count 'em and one gets a resounding result of three different ones to choose from.)

Uhm, no!Icarus wrote:Batsugun -> Donpachi -> Dodonpachi -> Dodonpachi II -> Dodonpachi Daioujou
Where did you get this idea that Batsugun is part of the series? It's totally unrelated to Donpachi, other than the fact that it was made by the same people.
And if that's your only criteria you would have to count V-V as part of the series as well.
Donpachi is usually referred to as Donpachi.Icarus wrote:Don't quote me on this, but Donpachi is usually referred to as Batsugun 2.

It makes sense that DOJ is the last of the series... if they wanted to make another instalment, it would have to be better than DOJ. I don't think Cave would want to risk that.

After DOJ, I think there is no other direction they can go with the series. I mean seriously...more bullets?

you can get a blue or gold coloured ship if you're using the 2P side. and you are right, the blue one's quite nicePC Engine Fan X! wrote: Plus, is it possible to select the "blue" colored fightercraft that is shown on the DDP-DOJ PCB high score screen as a "hidden fightercraft" or not? Why is this so important?
Just wanted to get the facts straight regarding if Cave will do another Donpachi PCB iteration/sequel or not...
As it stands, it will a monumental challenge for Cave Co. Ltd. to produce another Dodonpachi sequel to exceed the highest barriers of gameplay and strategies that already exist for the DDP-DOJ PCB...and if Cave does change their mind about developing "Episode V" of DP, then it will be done for the maniac-theme loving shmup fans worldwide...
Sure, it'd be interesting to see another DDP PCB made using the current SH-3 type arcade board that the latest Cave PCBs are churned out these days..... ^_~
