3.492.410 pts. 2-5 Type 4
Got this score some month ago, thought to post it at least.
Lost one life after another at 2-5 and the boss raped me into the grave.

I never did post this at the time (a couple of years ago, from the Euro Comp).

Gradius V PS2.................................3-5 score attack
DEL - 5,979,920 - 3-5 - Edit

A type 4 Edit, which I since learnt is the worst type :? .

Gorecki - 1,421,250 - Stage 1-6 - Type 4

Not much of an improvement. I simply cannot manage the backward scrolling part of level 6 with Type 4.

I used to switch to double (forward/& back shot) on the descent before the backwards scrolling bit. Make sure you choose spread bomb too - Type 4 Edit.

Improvement no matter how little still bumps you up in the high score list :)

Yeah I imagine that would be a good combination, but the problem is that I don't want to credit feed to beat the game and get weapon edit. Curse my stupid principles.

Credit feeding is how I was able to 1cc this game.

"Credit feeding is how I was able to 1cc this game."

Hehe.

Gorecki, I understand where you're coming from. I haven't 1cc'd it yet and don't have the Edit (or seen the ending), but I'd rather spend hours doing so and 'earning' it proper then credit feeding (blame the game for being good enough to earn this sort of respect!) With a lot of practice I'm now able to get far way into Stage 7, so my advice to you is just to keep practicing and don't give up! Only a few weeks ago I was around the scores you are at (~1.4m,) after all!

~"Carmen, who vows not to post another score until a 1cc."

Also, do any of you guys, besides Landshark, MSZ and tviks, play Gradius IV? Because the high score topic I've posted for it hasn't got any competition for a LONG time (not that the bloody game deserves it.)

Anyone tried playing this game without using force field? It seems that at least the first few loops could be more fun without it. On a separate note the lack of higher loop start really hurts the replay value of this game.

well in the higher levels the force field or shield is utterly useless.
you have to follow narrow-minded strats. and pay very deep when you make a mistake, independant of having a shield or not.
Just have a look at the awesome super-play superplays

Gorecki - 1,470,930 - Stage 1-6 - Type 4

A tiny improvement, which I think bumps me up quite a few places. I got to the 1-6 boss for the first time and was positive that I'd make it to 1-7 by timing them all out. But when the second boss arrived on screen, my haste to collect the powerups meant I flew right into him!

Hah, something similar happened to me first time I got there too - I wasn't expecting the walls to close in!

Hey, Minzoku, do you mind correcting my stage number? I got that score at 2-3... I don't want anyone to think that I can score that high by 2-1... which would be really impressive! :D

question:
Does it make sense to change from type 4 to type 2 (or whatever is the most recommended type) for loop 2 and higher ?
I play type 4 and sure everyone says you get screwed up using this formation, especially in the higher loops.
Though I do not know how long it takes, to get into a new formation.
Which type is the most tricky to deal with, undependant how useful it may be?
Is it at least a matter of taste or really part of the strategy?

It does make sense, and even more if you change to type 1. Sure type 4 is easy to use for noobs, but when you play enough, you should come to realise how much it sucks on the high loops. Type 1 on the other hand is a little tricky to master, but when you do, the game becomes a hell of a lot improved (and fun).

Wow, really? It always seems to me that Type 4 is the hardest to use, along with Type 2 (because you have to stop to aim your options.) I mean, the weapon selection for Type 4 isn't great (back missiles) and the Rotate just seems worthless because its hard to concentrate fire. Ironically Type 1 seems to be pretty easy...

hm well type 4 really doesnt seem to be very popular
At least type 2 doesnt suit to me, after some experience.. so i think I´ll try my luck with type 1.
Is there any key advantage for this type in that case?

Well, tviks' 16 loops  with a type 1 edit (I think it was type 1?) is a fair indication of an type 1 advantage

Type 4 gave me a whole heap of trouble from loop 3 onwards. Its nice for a couple of loops then I guess it sucks.

The type of firepower chosen on shooters often matters a lot. Like taking Flame Viper on Bakraid, the X-36 on Strikers 1999 or Strawman on Batrider.
