Gamefaqs Top 10 Shmups Scoring systems list

Pretty interesting list, although I don't think the Treasure duo would have topped my own personal list. There's some reference to shmups forum on here too.

Wow, he has a brain. Yeah, Ikaruga wouldn't be the top of my list (too simple). But then again, simple can be good. Personally, Ketsui, Guwange, Galuda 2, and Progear never cease to amaze me. You can understand the scoring system, and still do nowhere close to a "good" score if you don't have a certain amount of finesse. Way more than other Cave games even.

I actually did one once.

It's a pinball games list for consoles/handheld.
If that InvisibleYogurt guy sees this post for some reason, I wanted to ask him if he's ever played one of the ESP Galuda games.

... Medals drop from enemies, and as long as you keep picking them up as they come without dying or missing one, they'll increase in value up to 200000 points.
Say what? Also, the higher your score, the harder the game gets, and this feature is implemented quite dramatically...

Yeah, I like your pinball list a lot. I've never played the Virtual Boy game or the Genesis one, but I'd agree with the rest of the list. I suppose you didn't include Alien Crush because you have Devil's Crush on there. These are my favorites, followed by Kirby's Pinball Land.szycag wrote:I actually did one once.
The shmup list is a surprise-- odd to see that on a mainstream gaming site, with so many imports mentioned. Glad to see that interest in scoring-based games has not disappeared altogether.

Honestly, now that I think about it the lack of Border Down on that list is a shame. IMO its scoring system was nuts and completely f'ing awesome. Far better and more complex than anything Cave or Treasure has ever done.
I'm also not getting how Ikaruga has a better scoring system than RS... since Ikaruga basically has the light version of RS's scoring system...
