British Columbia. Shmups *604* style... and sometimes 778

Post by KBZ »

Hey, I moved here from ottawa a liitle while ago and just got settled.

I'm beginning to get familiar with the arcade scene downtown, but there's no competition for fighters, and shmups are few and far between.

Would any vancouverites be down for having a shmupmeet?

I have a bunch of dc shmups and a couple arcade sticks.

I also have a modded white sega saturn w/ multitap ready to go.

so who's out there besides myself and iatneH?

peace,

King.

Hey hey:

Welcome to Vancouver.

I haven't been to arcades at DownTown for sometime now. I was a bit turned off by the racy games and all...

As for shooters, here are what I found:

Metrotown, near Old Navies: DDP2, DDP DOJ, Zero Gunner 2, maybe more but I don't remember...

Richmond: I remember seeing ESPgaluda in an arcade behind some furniture store. Then again, the ESPGaluda was given a machine with an off-color monitor. So I won't recommend going there.

Cheers.

WarCheese

P.S.> As for shmupmeets, it's not a bad idea. What game do you have? I have PS-2 modded just for DOJ.

Psyvariar 2
Shiki 2
Chaos Field
Trizeal
Under Defeat
Radirgy

coming soon: Last Hope, and Trigger Heart Exelica

I also have a modded saturn, and mame connected to my tv which can tate quite well

edit: I also have thursday friday and most of saturday off of this week if that helps

Hey guys, I'd be happy to bring Ketsui again someplace.

WarCheese: the galuda place would be e-spot. I only go there to play beatmania IIDX...

I should be free this weekend, but sounds like Kingbuzzo isn't free on Saturday. I work downtown so I'm already there on weekdays. Lion's Lair or Kingbuzzo's place are easy enough for me to get to.

I've a modded PS2 and most of its shooters, just ask if there's anything in particular you want to hit up. Tastier PCBs I have are Ketsui, Progear, ESP RaDe, and OutZone...

I don't want to carry too much so I can only bring PS2 or PCBs but not both (unless WarCheese takes up PS2 duty, I can bring a few games)... and Progear is positively huge.

Kingbuzzo, sounds like you're hoping this happens within the next 2 days? I'll have to check often here...

ya I'm down.

Think you can make it for friday evening at my place warcheese?

I live downtown at burrard and comox about 4 blocks north of lion's lair.

I know you're not into fighters too much iatneH, but you should bring metly blood.

I also have a Kof2k2 and guilty gear X for dc, as well as Fatal Fury Speciial and Real Bout Fatal Fury Special for NGCD (played through pc emu)

I'm off tomorrow around 5:30PM, and I can start walking over unless you're not around until later.

Are you thinking of just phoning for some pizza or we can go take a walk for some foods?
I can bring some sissy girlie booze again :D

OK, for games... it's pretty short notice, so if WarCheese can't make it and you want to play Melty Blood, I'll bring just my PS2 and a few games.
Otherwise, I can bring a supergun and maybe 2 PCBs (and some PS2 games).

I'll pick up some pizza from pizza vita for great justice.

I got metly blood for pc here, I got it hooked up to the tv but I only have one dc/ss/ps2 -> usb adapter, and an alright usb pad.

would save you some room if we can pull off melty blood like that.

Thanks Kingbuzzo for hosting again.

Extra props for less screen discolouration this time too, thanks in part to some great Turkish pizza.

I'd better get back to work on modding that DC Agetec stick for some better Melty Blood-ing :) And actually learn some of the mechanics.

Should add, CHQ does not have Mushihime-sama.

It's a Mushihime-sama Futari ver. 1.5

That's a good reason to come to Vancouver now.

I went to CHQ looking for Mushihime and nearly shat myself when I discovered it was Futari. So... I didn't play Karous yet...

If you're planning to meet up again in the next few weeks, I may be able to bring Ketsui and some PS2 games, since my station is now slim. But I won't have joysticks this time, only pads.

ok, I have my stick here unpainted. I might just wetsand it down and start installing the parts since I wont be able to paint it properly still the spring/summer.

at least that way we'll have 2 sticks for everything. Might have to make more adapters though.

Just to seed the interest from any fellow Vancouverites, I ought to be free.

Here's a little incentive for the rest of you: There will be Ketsui.

Hi all:

I have forgotten about this. Sorry for not showing up at the 'meet last time.

Yes, Mushihimesama Futari. I was overjoy when I saw that one. I thought I was playing Mushihimesama at first. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I had to choose a character to proceed.

By the way, what happened to Progear? They used to have that that Yohan?

Anyhow, anytime you see the initial "LWH" in a Vancouver shmup scoreboard, that's me. I mostly play Mushi and DOJ at CHQ.

Cheers.

Wow, I'm gonna have to visit Vancouver someday.

Number of Cave shmups around here = zero.

Number of shmups made after 1995 around here = zero.

The most recent one is Blazing Star.

Oh no! That means no vert PCBs on the supergun :(

And it's pretty sad how I'm already assuming all future Vancouver shmupmeets are going to be at your place...

Nope, I have some work to do so I can't make it. Might be busy for the next few weeks too, but I will let you know if anything opens up.

How's the PS2-ing so far?

well I've been playing some melty blood but it's not as fun to play cpu.

ESPGALUDA is pretty sick. But Vanessa's been hogging the tv so I don't get to play much. Also, not being able to play tate has held me back a bit.

but otherwise I'm really enjoying it.

well turns out playing yoko on a 32" is just as fun as playing tate on a 27"

the yoko screeen is about 24" and it's much easier on my back

I was at CHQ yesterday, and Futari was moved to the worst place it could possibly be, basically leaving only enough space for one person to sit at the cabinet, OR one person to stand at the music cabinet right in front of it. Like, you could sit on Futari's control panel and be at a normal playing distance for the other machine.

Not only that, it wasn't even turned on.

I am starting to dislike CHQ... I was never impressed with the way they lay things out around the floor, but this just killed it for me.

Ketsui pcb
Ibara pcb

espgaluda ps2
ddp:doj ps2
and probably a whole lot of other ps2 shmups, and just about every shmup for dc.

we're also down for some fighters if anyone is into NG:BC, Kof2k2, Melty Blood, or whatever else.

send me a pm if yr down!

peace,

King.

unsane, did you get the info from Kingbuzzo? We'll be starting around 5:30, but actually I forgot KB's exact address again, I only recognize the building and how to get there.

Kingbuzzo can you PM us the location? Actually I just need the apt.#.

Hope to see both you guys later today.
