How many diff. country ROM vers. of Battle Garegga PCB?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

For our more knowledgable arcade shmup PCB purists,

1.) How many different country Bios versions of Raizing/8ing's Battle Garegga PCB were produced (and not counting the bootlegged versions, of course)?

I do recall of the original Japanese Bios version of Garegga PCB but are there any other country regions besides that one?

2.) And how many EPROMs are needed to change country Bios region of Garegga PCB?

Thanks in advance for your informative help as always... ^_~

There are three sets of roms, representing 8 different regions all documented here :

Jumper 3 and 4 do not have dip switches on the PCB, so you'll have to solder your own if you want to switch to the different regions within the eproms you have loaded.

If you want to switch eproms, you have to burn two physical chips.

For Brian,

Yes, I got it safe and sound. It is the China Bios country version of Battle Garegga PCB that I have now in my arcade shmup stash. What such a masterpiece from the likes of Raizing/8ing team (only to be eclipsed by Armed Police Batrider PCB in terms of sheer madness of character selection/fightercraft selection/+ a big basket of secrets up the wahzoo... ^_~

I'd have to say that Garegga is light years better than the gameplay of Wyvern Wings -- even though they're both arcade shmup titles, it's the high quality loving craftmanship that went into producing Garegga arcade title from the likes of Raizing/8ing partnership and it extrudes it in spades. ^_~

Wyvern Wings, on the other hand, seems more like a Psikyo Strikers 1999 type of clone. It more or less depends on one's taste in arcade shmup titles, of course...old school, maniac-themed, or otherwise, there's still yet more to be discovered to try out/practice/master from the likes of Cave Co. Ltd. and fellow shmup company rivals... ^_~

Thanks again for your generousity and understanding, Brian...

For Dave K.,

Thanks for the heads up on the eight different country regions...wow, that's quite a bit just for a single arcade shmup PCB as with Garegga PCB. Thanks again, Dave K. ...

Get that changed to Japanese revision, sharpish.
You won't regret it.

Excuse me for asking but why do you call it BIOS ? A BIOS is a Basic Input/Output System. The primary purpose of a BIOS is to prepare the machine for the program which it will load. BIOS's are most often found on cart systems, i.e. the Neo Geo has a BIOS, so does the ST-V, Naomi, G-Net etc. The Garegga PCB does not have a BIOS instead it has different software versions for different regions of the world.

Actually that is slightly incorrect even though I'm partly responsible

There are 4:

Battle Garegga (Austria / Hong Kong) (Sat Feb 3 1996)
Battle Garegga (Austria / Hong Kong) (Sat Mar 2 1996)
Battle Garegga (Europe / USA / Japan / Asia) (Sat Feb 3 1996)
Battle Garegga - Type 2 (Denmark / China) (Tue Apr 2 1996)

The last one actually says type 2 on the title screen.

While watching the Garegga Madness DVD, I noticed that on some of the replays it says something like "normal game only" on the title screen. Anyone know what that's all about? Maybe there was a version released without harder and extended modes or something?
