Is there an "EVO2K" equivalent for shmups?

Is there an "EVO2K" equivalent for shmups?

...At least, anywhere in the world (considering it should be an international tourney)? I know shmuping is usually a solo affair, but I don't know if there are competitive caravan modes and whatnot...Plus the usual one-on-one with Twinkle Star Sprites.

No, but there should be. I think they might still be holding arcade contests in Japan every now and then. I remember watching some vids on youtube (last year) of a shmup contest out there.

Are these contest just local, national, and are their foreign people who comete, too? (Not everyone is oblivious to these games...)
