The model is KV-X2502U, and every website with one wants me to pay to download their service manual. All I need is the combination. I tried UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, C, START but that didn't work.
With TV in stand-by try this sequence: [i+][5][vol+][power] (no more than 1 second between presses)
Are you sure you're pressing the correct button before [5]? [i+] is the button that displays on screen the status info. If you're sure then older Sony TVs will use a different button sequence.
If you find out how to access the service mode you could shift the image to the right (in your case upwards). It's always to the left when using RGB mode so you have a slight black band there and the other end is cut off.

Don't press power, press the button that has an outline of an empty screen (TV mode).
It's a bit of a pain to get the timing right, but just the buttons in that sequence before 3/4 secs passes.
The OK button should get you into the main selections, then use the arrows going right to enter a subsection.
DO NOT FANNY ABOUT WITH V SYNCH OR YOUR TELLY WILL NEED ITS FIRMWARE REFLASHED AND WILL COST YOU £50.
