Zero Wing! No really. The music is amazing and while it is a bit easy, it's classic Topolan horzi stuff.

Gamengai has a great selection of Mega Drive reviews, you should check it out.

Try the search function friend- there are SOOOOO many treasures on this site to read about- you could be kept busy for awhile on posts about megadrive alone : )

fire shark (tora tora tora)
Same! Same! Same! actually.

Tora! Tora! Tora! - Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!
Same! Same! Same! - Shark! Shark! Shark!

Both are supposed to puns IIRC but someone else would have to tell you. Maybe Same! Same! Same! is just a reference to the film.

"Tora! Tora! Tora!" was the operation codename for the attack on Pearl Harbor.

"Hishouzame" (= lit. "Flying Shark") was the name of Fire Shark's prequel.

So Fire Shark's Japanese title "Same! Same! Same!" is a pun on these two.

Search broken! FAQ broken! There's just no choice but to POST!!!

(honestly, I'd avoid twin cobras on the megadrive and just go all out for the PSX version. And why play Raiden on the system when you can play arcade perfect ports of it??!!)

The Mega Drive is boring because I can't recommend anything controversial like Bio Metal. But I can say...

The best are clearly the three Thunder Force games. A little known fact: Thunder Force 2 is better than 3. TF3 gets by on graphics, music and nostalgia. TF2 is actually challenging and somewhat original. Thunder Force 5 is crap because it's basically TF3 without the nostalgia or music. And the worst scoring system of all-time.

Hahahaha! Rob recommending 16 bit shooters! You know, if there is a personal hell, I can only imagine what game systems Rob will be allowed to have

Why the heck did we even bother to create an FAQ?

That said, Slap Fight is mui cool. Both the original and the exclusive Slap Fight MD (on the same cartridge) are fantasic old-school fun.

I can remember when I played Thunder Force III for the first time. It was my first Blockbuster rental in 1992 for my brand new Sega Genesis. And it handed me my ass in roughly... 20 seconds. :D

I think I am the only person on world who digs Battle Squadron.

Though I admit the Mega-Drive version isn't as hot as the Amiga original.

Well...and me. Definitely not for most folks, though. Nothing spectacular about it and, honestly, I don't know why I do like it...but I probably can say that about a lot of games.

My Top 5 on the Genesis/Mega Drive (games I drag the system out for even this many years later...not in any particular order):

Fire Shark (Same! Same! Same!)
Gaiares
Gley Lancer
MUSHA (Musha Aleste)
Thunder Force III

While I appreciate Eliminate Down on a technical level (and I appreciate the amount of money I had to pay for it), I'm just so-so about the game itself. That's similar to how I feel about Sapphire on PCE.

Don't forget his "quality" list. :P

Twinkle Tale was good, but perpare to shell out the cash for it since it's rare. If you look hard enough you can score a cheap copy of the game.
