What time are we talking about here? I know I was playing some exhibition matches with Forte for a bit at around 9-10PM last night and then I was playing some exhibition matches with another friend of mine since he just got the game as well. =/

EDIT: Also added you to my friends list.
Oh yeah, it was a tad later than that(I think I was on around 12 am cst)..but I will be on a bit more in the next couple of days hopefully..

Not a problem. Was watching Sousei no (Genesis of) Aquarion anyway. That anime is awesome and cheesy at the same time. Instant classic.

I wonder how the mainstream mags/sites are gonna rate this one?

The IGN UK preview, though a bit ignorant on genre, was suprisingly respectful.

Got a respectable 8/10 on Eurogamer.net who gave Under Defeat a 7/10...
It won't be the ratings which will kill the sales though. I can't imagine that it'll sell at full price in any western country.

1up.com - 5.0
Game Almighty - 3.6

I saw a few positive reviews too. Eurogamer gave it an 8 out of 10 and Game Daily gave it 7 out of 10. I saw an 88 somewhere too but can't remember the site.

The complaints seem to be that it's shallow, easy, has bad control and is too expensive.
Feedback will set you free.

....because then you’ll have even less reason to keep the volume turned up once you realize how bad the music is. It honestly sounds like it came from a slot machine, and a 20 year old slot machine at that.
I guess I am liking bad music  I think that is the best aspect of game and why I am continue to play and find maximum enjoyment.

I'm curious as to why four player would somehow increase the game's overall score.

the us version is confirmed region free on play-asia (credit for spotting this goes to someone on ntsc-uk) and it's about £10 cheaper than the best price i could find for the PAL one:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-dh- ... -1z67.html

although it looks like they have run out of stock for now, hope i placed my order in time :)

I played two ranked matches tonight, both against the same guy.

He didn't beat me when I had the sniper guy, but when I tried using Mika I lost (mind you, it was like, my first time using Type B Mika). I'm really hating the B.O.S.S. thing at the moment though since I still don't know how to control it and for some reason really suck at fighting bosses. I'll beat the shit out of somebody in a regular match... but when its B.O.S.S. time (for them or me) everything just falls apart.

Maybe I should start using the d-pad to pilot when that comes up. Thats about the best idea I've got at the mo' for it.

OK, d-pad for BOSS mode = :D I can actually dodge stuff then.

Made a good run tonight. Played uh... 8 ranked matches or so. Won all of 'em except the one I where I used Mika. Definitely only going to use the sniper guy in ranked matches though.

Ugh.

I played some Japanese guy in a ranked match this morning and he quit when he lost the first match and then the second dude I played against kept quitting 10 seconds into the match when it was looking like it was going to go his way.

I'll never get the Rounder or HiRounder achievements.

Ugh.
These latest few posts is why I am not playing video games on line.
I am thinking that I am to solitary and I cannot stand sour players. I am best served with out the hassle of playing games on line.

I have on line enable to play friends - at least that was the concept when I finally got xbox live a year after I own the system - my friend(live 1000 miles away) talk me into it saying we can play like when we was young. But we only play one game so far and Contra was riddle with issue.

I guess I am not well in social environment. I don't do well especially with folks I don't know  Its been issue my whole life I am not mr. cool guy I am always get pick on I am outcast.

Oh, don't let that discourage you...just to think, you can play Senko no Ronde against people from around the globe! I have had a good experience all around thus far, I just had one japanese player(well at least playing the japanese version of the game cause he had all of the costumes) has been a tool thus far(shame on him for letting me get into B.O.S.S when he was in vanish mode!)

Apparently we are all wrong. This game is awful. Gamespot, the authority on shmups, has given the game a 5.2. Main problems? Bad story, lack of online competition, and LOLZ IT SHUD BE 20 BUXXORZ!

Ah, it was written by Jeff. Great. Jeff Gerstmann is one of the biggest d-bags on their squad. They're all pretty big d-bags but he's like economy sized. I wonder why good games even come out anymore when this guy is supposed to be some leading authority on video games. Thank you Ubisoft for having the balls despite the adversity on showcase here...

Christ on a bike, I hate how with the advent of Action RPGs and cinematics in games, everything coming out now is supposed to have some kind of epic story to tell.

"Man, I just can't play this game effectively if I don't know WHY we're shooting at each other."
"Because we're enemies."
"But WHY? Were we childhood friends? Have wee been rivals all our lives? Did you kill my father and this is my coming of age adventure which begins as a quest for vengance and ends in so much more?"
"All I know right now is that you're dead."
"But WHY am I dead?"
"Because you're an idiot."

Shooters and fighters don't need story lines. I don't watch action movies to titilate my my brain and be amazed by story and character development. I watch them for explosions, fight scenes, and the occasional naked lady. I play shooters and fighters for pretty much the same reasons.
angrycoder wrote:lack of online competition
Can someone remind me again why it's the games fault that people aren't playing it online yet? Or is he saying there some kind of glitch with the online play, because last I checked you can play online.
angrycoder wrote:LOLZ IT SHUD BE 20 BUXXORZ!
I can't really argue with that, but I don't think this is nearly as big of an issue as all the reviewers make it. I'm sure if it had come out at $50 they would have said nothing. This aspect is just getting barbequed because it's playing on the fear of those "Next gen games will cost up to $100" and they want to try and snip it in the bud and tell developers "You better give us something fucking EPIC if you want us to pay $10 more for a game!" Reviewers don't seem to realize that as a Shooter it is a niche game and that niche gamers will gladly play any price for games they like (I'm lookling at you, Ketsui PCB owners).

Yet another review that proves my theory that 90% of gaming magazines and sites have their heads in their asses. Remember kids, there is absoultely nothing about these people that makes their opinions more valid or more objective than yours besides a possible English or Journalism degree (This coming from a guy getting an english degree and maybe looking to be a reviewer/writer. Here's hoping I can change the system from the inside  )

Agreed, Tempest, I don't care if I can "relate to the main character", when the main character's in a GAME! Game reviewers have gone waaay overboard with this. Oh yeah, and then they rip on a game like Spider-Man 3, because there's too much "button mashing". So what?! We all grew up on fighting games that had lots of button mashing, but just because it's next-gen, it has to be something totally different, or they give it a low score. Nonsense.

I'm not a fan of Gerstmann's reviews, either. IGN also gave WarTech a low score, though:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/792/792279p1.html

Ok, so what about their complaints about the controls?

At any rate, it seems like folks are having fun with the game. I just couldn't see myself getting into what looks like a shmup/vs. fighting hybrid.

I just got my Rounder status sometime last week! I think the Japanese are starting to play serious with me since I'm the only American ranked around 450 for all ranked matches so far! D:

That would be pretty interesting if they did bring over their Dreamcast versions. ;)

What really gets on my nerves is when they mention that this game should've been on XBLA when it obviously couldn't have been. If these reviewers could somehow make this game specifically remastered for the 360 along with the additional songs and voices to somehow magically fitting all of it into 50MB (since that was the file size limit back when this game was released in Japan), I'd like to see them try.

No, Roboblitz doesn't count since it doesn't have 2 CDs worth of music to it.

I started just playing the Japanese in Ranked matches today. I don't care anymore, just... whatever, I'll just play to play.

Of course, they typically win, because, of course, they understand the game far better than I do, and I still wind up NEVER using the special moves, but eh, I sometimes win 1 round against 'em.

I am starting to hate Chupla (sp?) and Mika players though... those two characters do some cheap shit...

Chupla? Are you referring to Ernula (Ensemble Lasers that pierce through anything) or Cuilan (Punch Barrier that negates anything not a T-Mine, Ensemble Laser, or an explosion)?

Mika's annoying since he can get away just by stunning you with homing missiles and then hitting you with his main weapon. Then his B.O.S.S. mode is kinda tough to crack since you need to destroy at least a layer of shielding before you can hit the vulnerable part.

Ernula. Sorry. :p

Mika pisses me off because he can just use his stupid barrage attack to block the bullet hell from a boss. Ugh. That was f'ing lame.

Ernula is just annoying all around. Especially the boss mode though.

Reaction Bombs aren't too bad; what's worse are Mika players who know when to fire their missiles to negate incoming projectiles or time their special moves perfectly so they take no damage AND still execute it.

You're using Karel, right? What you can do to mix it up a bit is to move him around during B.O.S.S. mode by dashing. He can move around to any of the 4 corners of the screen. His Final attack is also somewhat useful if your opponent has no method of hitting the arms while they're spinning.

I feel the same way about Changpo players, but at least I have gotten better at fighting them since that is all I have fought for the most part.
