I had this great vert shmup I would play on my old mac (os 9), called "Giants" made by some Japanese developer It had an awesome scoring mechanic where the enemy bullets would turn into little dollar signs when you kill the enemy that shot them. If you got every successive dollar sign thing without missing any, they would upgrade to money bags, and then to gold bars, etc. They had several levels of progression and when you had it maxed out to piles of gold bars, your score starts climbing exponentially, but the gold bars also fall much faster and it's easier to miss one or two and downgrade them. The game also had aim-able options that you could angle forward, sideways and downward and freeze in place at will. I had tons of fun with this thing.
If anyone knows anything about this or where I can get it I would really appreciate it!

Here's an update for any of you who wanted to try the game. I have the files. Now, I need to figure out how to run it on either windows or Linux. If anyone wants to help out in that regard I'd appreciate it as well.
Here's the files for anyone interested:

Here's the creator's official website, which includes this and more games:

Still no luck getting this thing working either. I emailed the guy but who knows whether the email on that website is outdated or not. Emulators all require some sort of mac ROM image in addition to the OS... so I'm kind of stumped here.

I got this working on an old iMac that runs OS 8.5. Unfortunately it looks like OS X's classic environment doesn't run the game too well. The game is absolutely as awesome as I remember it. 2nd run, I got over a million points, which is something I worked long and hard to achieve back in the day when I originally played it. What's awesome about the scoring system is that I got the million in the beginning of the level. Once you line up a bunch of shots and kill the enemies, you collect a ton of coins and they level up to gold bar stacks quickly which nets you TONS of points in a really short time span. Unfortunately if you break the score chain (which is easy once you level them up all the way) you don't get much more, since I only barely got 1.2 million when I died on the mid-boss.
If you're looking to play this game, try it on an older Mac OS if you can because I don't think OS X can deal with it.
