Need help with ps2>usb adapter.

Post by Squirrel »

Hey all,

I'm building a quick'n'dirty mame cab, here's the control panel.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y294/k ... lpanel.jpg

The other joystick is a 4 way stick for pac-man and such.

Now, I was playing with different controllers in mame, and my ps2>usb adapter has definite lag in controls, where my usb controller that I bought in japan (looks and feels like a genesis controller), has zero delay, and I can control ms. pac-man like a dream.

Question, do all ps2>usb adapters have that kind of lag? I go the EMS USB2 adapter, due to me wanting to play ddr on the PC. I got a RedOctane Afterburner, so that's not needed anymore. Question is, do no lag ps2>usb adapters exist? Or do I end up having to hack my usb controller?

My usb-adapter has no lag (it's a Boom PSX+N64 USB Converter), but it's also one of those you can't use it with DDR, as it doesn't recognize opposite directions being pressed at the same time.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Thanks, and that's fine that it can't play ddr, I got a $250 pad with built in usb support. Besides, I have a hacked ITG on my ps2 with all the songs on it, so I'm not worried about it.

I always found the Stepmania USB adaptor page very useful. Please note that the red "X" doesn't mean that the adaptor doesn't work at all but that it's one of the adaptors that doesn't register simultaneous button presses on the same joy axis. The page also says that the EMS adaptor indeed seems to have some 0.1sec lag. I personally use the SmartJoy Dual PLUS PS2->USB adaptor and it doesn't have any noticeable lag.

Hmm that's odd, I read up on the boom psx/n64 adapter and it said about it not being compatible with certain controllers/joysticks.

I'm sticking to my gut instinct, I got me a parallel port adapter. I know those don't have any lag from my experience when I was playing Stepmania on the PC back in Japan.

EDIT: Well that's just great, it won't work right on my tekken 5 stick. *sighs*

EDIT 2: Well I found out that there are different drivers than NTPad, and DirectPadPro worked wonders. Select gets pressed randomly, so I just changed escape to Start, and pause to the coin insert button (L1).
