Over time, I'll be picking up the PS1 imports listed below and I was just hoping to get confirmation from the pros (yes, you) that I'll be able to play 'em on a JP PS2.

One stage runs slowly, but otherwise it works fine: playing on a PS1 is preferable, but I don't think I'd call it a necessity (unlike Toaplan Battle 1, or Night Raid).
Which stage is this? I played Gradius Gai Den on my PS1 back in the day and then later several times on my (modded) PS2, never saw any slowdown. Oh and any reason you don't just get a USA unit modded?
I've never heard of any fixes to the problem, from the searching I did when I bought Books Gaiden last year (that doesn't mean there aren't any, of course).
The Books edition is a few years old, though, so I think a fix would've been reported by now.
It hasn't been fixed in any of the releases, but I'd say the problem is fairly minor. The first time I played the game (I had never played it on PS1) I thought the slowdown was meant to be there because it's consistent, stable and appropriate to the stage thematically. And the slowdown ends before the boss fight anyway.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
