No1 or bust

Post by AiD »

I was just curious as to the critera for entering a score on this board, my feeling is there are a lot of players who have scores for games but dont post them because they are not number 1, am I wrong, I hope so :)

Depends on the thread: some scorekeepers will take as many scores as are submitted, others cut it off at the top 10 or 20, or some other number. In most cases just submit what you have, no one will make fun of you; heck, I've been submitting my own pathetic scores for some time now and people have behaved, heh. Shmupping's largely a personal accomplishment, after all.

I'll post some garbage scores but only if I know I plan on improving them.

See, Rob, that's your problem, you actually embody some sense of personal pride and dedication to a goal...I can help you work on that. ;)

i only post scores that make me happy :p, be it number 1 or bottom of the bottom. i see no reason to post early scores on a game that im planning on playing, since those are bound to be improved, also, id find it annoying if i made a score thread and some dude was making a new post every time he improves his score by say, 100 points...ive seen stuff like this.

I haven't posted any scores yet (okay, I posted one, but it was on the old board), simply because I want to feel like I'm playing to the best of my ability in a given game before I post a score for it. I'm not as dedicated as some of the guys here, but I want to feel like I've learned the game as well as I'm going to learn it before posting a score. I don't care about being 'the best' or whatever, but I do want to try and do my best.

The exception to the above would be with games that have just been released or just emulated -- it's fun to compete against people who are all learning the game at the same time, but it's not as much fun to compete against someone who's been playing a game for years when you just started on it last week. Sort of like how it's not much fun to play Counter-Strike against people who play it every day. ;) ..

Thread moved from Hi Scores board to Shmups Chat.

On-topic: this question was touched upon a while ago, and I think some of the feeling was that the more people post scores the better it is for the board, even if some of the scores are low.

Unless someone does it before me, I'll be wanting to make a Soukyugurentai scoreboard soon. I'm not great with html so it would be quite helpfull if someone could post some info on how to make a scorebaord :)

Especially since without being able to use tab, and without htl knowledge my scoreboard would just look a mess heh

Not posting because of "score envy" is really silly. The point of a forum like this is to establish a community and part of that is being active on the boards. Plus, coming in with a score and asking for help is usually one of the best ways to get people talking about the games you like.

There are exceptions though. Like Truxton for example.

I myself can't even break 20,000 on that game, much less loop it 9 times over. So to hell with THAT. xD

Post because you are proud of YOUR score. I don't really plan on having Kiken or Twitch skills, I post when I feel I've done well.

I miss my number 1 place on ThunderForce V. I need to scrounge up my old score, but I'm pretty sure that the guy who started the new thread has me beat. Granted, not many people play it for score, but christ, I was proud of that score.
