Armed Police Batrider
If I wanted to play this game, what's my best bet? It seems pretty rare, yeah?

Indeed. I finally got off my lazy, lurking ass and registered. You along with everyone else now have the ability to adore my skills* not only in real life but on the internet. Isn't that just great?kccttzj wrote:Wait, Tempest???
Back on topic, in case you are gettiing the Mame file (Or the PCB as well I guess) durias, make sure to get all the dip switches set up for stage edit and extra characters. I didn't know about the Garrega/Mahou characters for quite a while, and I felt kinda dumb when I realized they were only a few clicks away.
*Any afformentioned skills may or may not be applicable to Shumps, or any gaming in general for that matter. Void where prohibitted

shmupsforum loev batrider.
Some quick notes for those who are interested or haven't played it yet:
- PCB isn't hard to find, and runs quite cheap (I bought one a while back for £50, Japanese A version, with all flyers and dipsheets but no box or poster). Korean-B version seems considerably easier to acquire than both Japanese-A and B, from what I can tell.
- Emulated fine (anthough most Raizing have slight input lag in MAME). Use any version around v0106 or lower, otherwise the game is horribly mangled.
- No console ports, unfortunately. (I'm still holding out for a Raizing Shooting Collection. One can only dream.)
- There are differences between Japanese-A, Japanese-B and Korean-B which relates to the gameplay. They are:
- - Japanese-A: lack of C button for Option formation changing, so Garegga ships need to input special codes to switch Option formations.
- - Korean-B: Extends are automatically collected when you hit the Extend limit, and there is no changing of autofire speed using the command codes.
- - Japanese-B: has all the basics, includes C button, item-based Extends and all secret codes (the original and preferred version).
- Quite a stocked game with about 18 ships and four selectable courses (one activated by code/dipswitch). You can play with a team of three ships - either pre-selected or self-created - or with one ship only.
- Scoring is typical Raizing with "bomb stuff", "destroy parts of bosses", and milking styles recognisable from Garegga. Rank system is quite typical Raizing too. ^_-
If you haven't played Batrider yet, what the heck are you doing? ^_-
Batrider is excellent fun and very accessible, and nowhere near as daunting or as complex as the likes of Garegga and Great Mahou.

Woo! I use v0106. It's the first version I got. I was wondering if it was just my computer when I tried v0114 and APB shut down after about 2 minutes...Icarus wrote: - Emulated fine (anthough most Raizing have slight input lag in MAME). Yeah, Mame is one of those programs that actually
-in parts - get worse with each release (most of it having to do with "emulation accuracy" rather than smooth playability).
Shmups-forum lunatic Stuart Campbell has some words on that:
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/mameover.htm
And I had it running in 0.99b command line without any problems. Too bad mid-game savestates don´t work, as it will be a mess when loading them again - but on the other hand, it kept it fresh for me. One of my all-time faves and the one I put the most effort in.

Use v071 or v72.... toaplan boards are crashing lastly (This bug fucked my 3 battle bakraid runs)Ayanami wrote:Shit, I have version v0112. Batrider has lag on this version? Or is it that it runs slower? It seemed ok to me but I don't have the greatest arcade stick for PC in the world.

Let's face it, there no reason in hoping to get a totaly bug-free emulator when there are 6000+ games behind it....Yeah, Mame is one of those programs that actually
-in parts - get worse with each release (most of it having to do with "emulation accuracy" rather than smooth playability).
Still, while many new bugs pop up (like the Batrider one), others -some of them have been around for years- get fixed. Not to mention, that mame, being a live project, will get the support it deserves for Windows Vista and the OSes that will follow..
Nobody wants a bugged mame release and everyone hates seeing their favorite games broken, still, there's always the option of downgrading to an earlier version until things get better (they always do by the way)
All in all, staying to an older version is suggested, but blaming mame for not doing its job is not fair IMO... Just look at the plethora of new options since version .105 and the D3D support for instance... playing DDP outside a PCB never felt better!

Strange... Bakraid seems fine in latest mame (.115)... Its Garegga and Batrider that crash...Kaiser wrote:Use v071 or v72.... toaplan boards are crashing lastly (This bug fucked my 3 battle bakraid runs)Ayanami wrote:Shit, I have version v0112. Then again, I may be wrong so why don't you go to http://www.mametesters.org and post your find there?

I have never experienced any problems with it. The closest you can get to an arcade experience without splashing out on a cabinet. I think they're fantastic.Pirate1019 wrote:Do you mean X arcade the sticks? I've heard they aren't so good. Although a friend ordered some parts from them and they seemed good enough.
I'm sort of casually looking for a HRAP or other good stick at the moment.

I didn't neccesarily mean functional problems. I meant more along the lines of the feel of it. The buttons look like they are positioned uncomfortably and I heard the stick and buttons have a stiff feel to them. I would much prefer a HRAP. Or any stick with a japanese style button set up for that matter.
