While Sol Divide is a good port of a bad game, Dragon Blaze is a good port of an exceptional game - highly recommended. It even holds together well as a pack, the menu at the front end suits both games, nice job Oh - scores can be saved (auto unknown, likely not), the viewing modes for Blaze are yoko zoomed (correct aspect), or tate - as it should be.
Cool. Now everyone can start to learn of the insane difficulty of Dragon Blaze.
they just had to be good ports. now i'll have to buy it. i have been thirsting for some Dragon Blaze ever since i downloaded a boss-fight video off click-stick. so crazy it was.
bloodflowers wrote:I find it easier than Gunbird 2.
I'm glad to hear this, actually. Gunbird 2 on normal difficulty is a bit too hard for me, so I have trouble getting super invested in the game, even though I like so many things about it.
Can't wait for my copy of DB! Maybe tomorrow.
Sol Divide is a game I didn't give a rat's ass about at first, but I like it a bit more now. It's not really a shooter but more of a midair Golden Axe IMO.
The "MAME Yoko" for Dragon Blade does look better than Giga Wing Generations' version- probably since a 320x224 playfield can fit in the PS2's screen.
Loading times I can live with- they're not that long.
Compared to MAME, Sol Divide does look a tad pixely. Then again I'm playing SD on a 35" TV set and not a 17" monitor.
Yes, I agree about Gunbird 2 being harder than DB. GB2 I find maddeningly hard. Dragon Blade is about on par with Strikers 1999.
I just played Dragon Blaze and i really liked it no complaints here, pretty hard shooter but i just got started and like it more than some other manic shooters out there, the Dragon Shoot i'm having difficult timing it to get the Tech Bonus for instant kills, well i think its a very good port so far, i didn't play SOl Divide

I'm selling this POS.
*sigh* Dodging and returning fire...when are they going to think up something new?

Finally, some controversy so people will start talking about the game and maybe even play it.
Skill at Psikyo games is directly proportional to penis size

went to paris, didnt find dragon blaze, bought raiden DX and strikers II ps1 jp (to erease the atrocity that was ps2 pal version from my memory)
instead.
so no dragon blaze for a loong moment, unless i find someone that has it and i copy it to my HD, because im broke as fuck lol.
completely off topic, i didnt have as much fun as i have with raiden DX in like...forever.
on an unrelated note, i now think that the pal version of gunbird doesnt exist, and that its just a conspiracy set up by you evil people to make me sad

Ah, finally someone who feels the same as I do about this game!
I too was dissappointed with it (see my earlier posts in this thread),
and that's why I didn't even buy it in the first place.
The POS comment was regarding the conversion of DB, which looks really, really bad in yoko. And the fact that DB seemed to be the same game as all other Psikyo games I have didn't help either.
you didn´t even use the dragon shot, did you? Maybe the intro wasn´t flashy enough?
No kidding...have you even played any other psikyo games?
They're all vastly different. There's a difference between saying you don't like it, and shit-stirring comments that have no basis in fact. Hence the controversy.
Yeah, I do not get this. DB is as different from other psikyo games as dangun feveron is from Dodonpachi, or Armed Batrider is from Battle Garegga. If you don't like Psikyo games you don't like Psikyo games, but calling them all the same isn't just a dislike of psikyo, it is more a misunderstanding of game mechancs in general. When it comes down to it, most shooters are very similar, while differences often boil down to bullet pattern, ship speed, scoring mechanics, weapon type and over all difficulty.
Let's see, DB has some fairly different (and nasty) bullet patterns, completely new weapons, completely different scoring mechanics, and is hard as hell.
I don't even buy that the proximity attack in Gunbird 2 is the same thing since you can only use it a limited number of times, and your style of attack isn't completely changed after you use it--plus, there's no scoring system related to it.
I guess my real problem with this entire argument is that while DB is similar to other psikyo games, all shmups are similar to other shmups, and once you have discarded all the subtleties, we might as well just go back to playing Galaga.

you can say a proximity weapon has been used before. You can also say a separate weapon unit has been used before, although not in a Psikyo game, and not in a manic shmup. This is important because you are doing different things with the dragon in DB than with the force in R-Type.
You can say the charge shot and Technical Bonus is similar in Strikers 1999. There is no other professional game which has the gold coins vs. silver coins play mechanic that is in Dragon Blaze.
Let´s compare Guwange and ESPGaluda. In both, you can slow bullets down, but in one you are slowing them all down simultaneously, and in the other you are slowing down only a few at the same time, manipulating attack patterns. Both allow you to transform bullets into medals, under different circumstances, and to suck them up automatically. Both feature two different speeds at which you move, depending on which weapon you fire... just like any other Cave game. Now, is ESPGaluda "just the same" as Guwange? Obviously not. Now tell me why this statement should be even remotely true for Dragon Blaze.
Hey Rob & PPP (and other DB superstars), I requested some strategy help in the, uh, strategy forum, where it seems most appropriate. Hope you guys see it since I'm still really a newbie with this game.

The avatar might've confused, but I'm no DB expert. Would help if I could.

Eh, figured with the name and all you'd had more experience with the game than I.

Well, I finally got my copy today...(Play-asia does take there sweet ol' time sometimes), and all I have to say is:
BlearrgghhhOMFGthisgamefukinrocks1!!!11!
Errr...Ahem...
Wow, I'd never gotten to play Dragon Blaze properly before, and I'm completely blown away. I need to put a lot more time into this game, but from early impressions, I might just have a new favorite Psikyo shmup. And Gunbird 2 made my all-time top 25. Absolute brilliance.
MadSteelDarkness> I feel the same way. I'd played it in emulation and new it was good, but hadn't really experienced. YES! It is really fucking great. Very different (I think) from other Psikyo shmups, almost cavish at times in the dense patterns, very sophisticated in its weapon execution. A very refined and challenging game that NEEDED to be put on a console. Honestly, this might be a fair trade for missing some of the Cave games (though I'll keep hoping they come out!) Dragon Blaze is an innovative shmup that I'm really happy I can say is in my collection.
