Pink Sweets board woe

The problems never stop round my way

.

Anyhoo, sorted my harness, everything including and prior to Galuda 2 runs perfectly now. Then comes Pink Sweets......

First time I stuck it in, the wee red light comes on, then it switches to the two red lights and I get a flash on the screen, like all the other PCBs when they initalise. Apart from then, the screen goes black. So I turn it off, then on again - the same. After doing this a load of times it finally comes on - smashing! I press the credit button - blue screen and 'Credit Failure' written. Turn off, then on, try again. After numerous attempts I finally get it it running and the board is working fine. Put it away for a few weeks to get into Ketsui and bam! now it's doing this again.

Now, my supergun has trouble on Mushi Futari, but that's just no sound - that's sorted with headphones. Troublesome, but bearable. But this makes me think either the board is an absolute dud or my supergun can't handle it - I suspect the former. Trouble is, I got it from Arcade Shock, and they charge for replacements

. Any advice, similar problems?

What kind of supergun are you using? I've never had any problem with any Cave board on my Sigma AV7000 (I've tried them all out). They all work flawlessly, every time.

Sounds like you got power supply issues. My experiences are that of TWE's... no issues at all.

The 'credit failure' thing is a known behavior. It's because the credit button is a push button; and you're holding it too long when you press it. Makes the board think you're haxing the coin slot or something. The credit switch on cabs toggles fairly quickly.

It doesn't consistently happen to everyone, it likely depends on how you tend to press the button and all types of other factors.

Usually the 'test' switch will add credits and not have this issue. I dunno if those superguns have the test switch wired up at all.

This is what I suspected. I'm using a Sigma AV3000 via a 100 watt step down.

Zakk - thanks for the info. Now I just need to get it running.

Would using a higher watt step down converter be of any benefit? Or will I just have to buy an AV7000 for future proofing? I imagine a Naomi set up ain't gonnna work through this......

I'm afraid I know nothing about tech stuff, so I don't know

. How would I find out? My Dad is itching top open the gun up.

Unfortunately I can't help you with that

The reason I asked is that I thought Sigmas are built using arcade PSUs and arcade PSUs usually have adjustable 5V lines.

No probmlem mate, the suggestion was excellent.

Well, we opened it up, and flicked it to 240v. My measely step down only outputs 120v. I may buy another that can output at 240v and see if that powers it up.

240V is standard UK mains

EDIT:

This is the side of an AV7000, is your AV3000 similar? If so the white screw at the point marked 11 gives you +5V adjustment.

Yeah, but it's got a Japanese 2 pin plug so I can't just plug it in. I could get the plug re wired with a standard UK plug, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: I don't have the button thingy at 11, but have a hole next to where the power cord is.

Just cut the plug and wire a standard (for your country) plug. On a side note there are only two wires in that cable, the earth is missing: very bad idea in a device with a metal case. You couldn't even sell something like that commercially in Europe, it wouldn't pass the CE safety regulations. I would do it the right way and replace the whole power cord with a 3-prong one since the PSU in the supergun will no doubt have an earth connection, usually marked FG (frame ground).

Haha, my Dad said the exact same thing about the eart wire! Thanks for the advice mate, I'll look into it.

11 is not a button, it's a hole that gives access to the +5V adjustment screw (i had to adjust it when i got ketsui).

Also this may not help per se but I have the 'coin error' on Ibara, I sorted it by hitting the test menu button and setting the game to freeplay so I don't need to press the 'coin' button.

My AV6000 uses goes into a naff stepdown I have had for ages and has run fine always,
