Is Rastan a selectable character in PS2 Barbarian?...

Post by dave4shmups »

I know he is in the Japanese version of the game:

http://www.taito.co.jp/d3/cp/warriorblade/

But I don't know if you can choose him in the US version-I haven't seen the name "Rastan" in a FAQ I read about Barbarian.

So what I am trying to find out is, was he completely left out, of was his name just changed? Anyone know??

It has to be the character "Dagan"-look at this screenshot from Gamespot:

Looks pretty much the same as Rastan in the Japanese version, though I don't know why his name was changed, as he's a pretty well known video game character here in the US. :?

Yeah, I recall someone saying this game started out as a non-Rastan game and then they just bolted on the Rastan license for the Japanese version.

Well, here's a quote about the Japanese version from Play Asia:

"Warrior Blade originally appeared on the Arcade in 1991. Taito brings an updated version subtitled Rastan vs. Barbarian to the GameCube and Playstation 2."

So it does look like this was intended by Taito to be an update of that game. I'd like to give it a try even if Rastan isn't called Rastan in this game, since it's an update.

It's not an update of the arcade game. It's Titus's Barbarian with one of the character's names changed to Rastan for name recongition. IMO, it's not even a real Rastan game.

Holy shit? Wow... at least they haven't forgotten about him. If it's got the word Rastan in there, I'd consider it a Rastan game, just b/c each in the series is so damn different. The second one was one of the worst games I've ever touched... yet I can't deny it's a Rastan game. Perhaps the US side of things was smart in turning the name backwards. :)

Wonder who owns the Rastan license now...? Too bad the series always had a disparaging monsters-only cast of enemies.
