*shrug* I have Castle of Shikigami 2 on the PS2...picked it up for $5.P_HAT wrote:new? where?Damocles wrote:Go for EX and II if you've never played them. Then again, you can get them for cheap on other platforms...![]()
with no f*** US censorship in ps2 version?
Unless you have a moddeed or Jp X-box you won't be experiencing SNS EX anywhere else. The extra mode is fun, but not really important.
Personally, I don't mind the MLF-ization of SNS...I never payed attention to the cutscenes and rarely listened to the voices...then again...I played the hell out of EX on the PC...

I actually played III before on PC (and no it wasn't the demo).shinsage wrote:You've actually played III or you're just regurgitating what others have said?Fighter17 wrote:SnS III is pure shit.
I was very disappointed in general. It didn't had the chram from the second game which I loved so much.
It seems like the Type-X shooters look much worse than the Naomi ones.

I haven't played any of them enough for particularly meaningful comparison, but I certainly like III. It has some quite dreary backdrops, but so did II, and they're pretty much pure moving wallpaper that you phase out within a couple of plays, anyway. Play-wise, the hi-tension max 'bomb' seems a neat idea that builds on the tension gimmick without breaking it, and the apparently obligatory side trip into puzzle/maze mode for stage 3 is likely my favorite of the three. I'd be interested to know how anyone who liked II manages to dismiss III as worthless, since the main thing I'd note about the series for anyone who's seen none of them is that they're all very similar (even EX, since its power-ups, mildly annoying though they can be, are so incidental in practice).
Regardless, if you're going to buy only one of those two, get EX & II. It's obviously better value unless you don't like EX at all. III is still vaguely current, so a future price drop or budget re-release might not be out of the question.
[edit]Forgot - EX and II can save replays, III can't. Pretty minor feature, but may be important to you.[/edit]

I'd probably go for SNSII but I find SNSIII is a fine game too. Graphics of SNSIII have been slightly pimped compared to SNSII, being that SNSIII has moving backgrounds and such. SNSII has more ingenuity though, mostly in the boss encounters. I wouldn't call either ugly btw, but that a matter of taste.
