Still Tryin

Post by NeoZeed_RP »

Hey guys

I joined up not that long ago with the intention to post a few high scores.

Unfotunately......I cant even get close to some of the scores on here. You fellas must really put the hours in!!!

I love the Dreamcast shooters and i'm currently playin:

GigaWing 2
Psyvariar 2

Both top games, although I guess I'd need to 1CC them to get anywhere near a top score and i'm way off (especially with GigaWing 2, HEAD ASHPLODE!!!!!!).

Anyway, I'll keep pluggin away, you never know :? I just dont want to be one of these "sign up and forget" members.

Oh yeah, if anyone knows a good strategy for these games i'm all ears :D

Cheers lads.

You from Europe or England? I'd recognize that cover art from anywhere (my copy of Revenge of Shinobi is from England, which I like because that cover is awesome). :)

Anyway, I can't really hit these incredible scores either, although I think my current control pad is partly to blame - find myself flying all over the place with a 360 USB controller.

England's in Europe, though most of the people there would probably be glad you hadn't noticed.

You have a point there. It'd be nice to have some high score threads dedicated to the 'lower tier' players like myself, who wants to brag about the 29mil I just got on Mushi a second ago, but has nowhere to post it. It'd be like an STG 'little league' of sorts, the lower divisions before you bust your way into the premier divsion.

Yeah.

Anyways, welcome!

Wow! You mean the English Channel DOESN'T qualify as an ocean?

Also, England doesn't have the Euro. Anyway, I wrote it that way since English and European distribution for many games was slightly different back in the day (of course there were a number of sources for some games within Europe itself back then, but that's another story).

Just keep at it. You'll get a good score eventually. I have only a single goal I try to meet before posting a score.

I'm not at the very bottom of the table.

It helps me feel good about myself, even though I've failed to meet that goal on a few games I've posted scores for.

still is that way with different distributions, different packaging and sometimes even kicking out all the additional languages that are in there for the rest of euroland. england is a parasite, bearing lot's of weight and reaping lots of benefits from europe but pretty much refusing to truly to participate with the european program...oh damn this is shmups not a political forum...euhm so just ignore that part or something...

i like the idea of a low-end scoreboard. doesn't have to be glamorous but a place where the less-than-ultimate-awesome-players can share their scores and somewhat compete, i suppose.

Thats a bit harsh, mate.

I dont recall many games being "England only" releases. Saying that, I dont recall many games :?

I'm actually quite pleased that there are others on this forum that cant compete in the high score leagues. I thought it was just me :D

One other thing. The GigaWing 2 league, is that the arcade version? The score layout is different from the DC.

true, it's rather harsh though i don't mean to say that the residents of england (or brittish shmup members) are parasites but rather that the country / it's government are quite keen on taking subsidies from europe but when it's time to pay there is always a lot of fuzz. like i don't mind if england joined the european union or if they keep their independence but this nibbling on both sides i find offensive...anyway this all just applies to euro-politics and has very little to do with games / shmups or scoreboards. so no offense intended (unless you are solely responsible for brittan's european policy ).

no you're not alone at all! there are many, many more who can't compete with our top players though most aren't very vocal about it. but regardless you shouldn't play for topscores too much because in the end there will always be that japanese player who will blow whatever score you may have right of the water.

Different regions have different score arrangements (Japanese version in groups of four, right? is that what you mean?).

Thats exactly what I mean. Is the score system the same, only a different layout (can I convert my score to groups of 3??)??

Yeah, I realize what you meant, and country-specific distribution still isn't unheard of, was just amused at the implicit England != Europe. PAL distribution's historically been kind of a mess, altogether, with no real standardization of what languages get supported; and Australian console users, who'd want the English language version, tend to have at least one war story about being let down by small Euro region distributors with no presence in their hemisphere. It's not so grim as it used to be, but I still sometimes question whether it's really worth trying financially to support PAL distributors rather than just give up on the format and import everything.

British (/waves to any Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish readers) governments have a long history of weaselly vacillation over Europe, yes, but I think the public is about as accountable as the politicians, for once. Governments that don't want a fast ticket to the opposition benches have to allow for the sizeable chunk of their electorate that views integration of any kind as unwelcome interference from foreign parts, sometimes quite irrationally so. Anyway, sorry for the further derailment - this should go to Off-Topic if it's going to turn into its own discussion. ON topic, I think it's safe to say any parasitic tendencies don't extend noticeably to shmuppage. 505 GameStreet's Italian, isn't it?

I got halfway through level 5 of R-Type the pther day and thought I'd submit the score, only to find that the person at the bottom of the table had made it to level 11 or something ridiculous. It was humbling.
