Speed Run = Me playing the game , getting killed, using credits or cheats until the end.

I've never heard of such a "speed run" being played like this. If he wanted some real speed, maybe he should have thrown in some uber frameskip and make the game run at 10x the speed. I mean, he's already admitted to using cheats, what's one more?

Net Play on mame for fun only, I'm not a uber pro at every single arcade game i just play for FUNNN. If you want more serious play then i'm quite sure you will find some moody King Of Fighters users to kick your arse in the netplay servers.

Longplays marked with CM (all of them?) are Cheat Mode replays. Any of the cheats available through cheat.dat for MAME may have been used by the player.

Nothing new here. moffstarr has over 400 videos, most being MAME replays of arcade games. He usually just does them by request, which is why there's a lot of quircky titles thrown into the mix. I don't think I've seen a replay of his without cheats on, but then again, he's just showing what the games are like.

I think I recall using about 57 on my first playthrough. I'm playing on the anthology and still just credit feeding through them to find the one I like the most.

Speed Run lost all meaning after that one guy made the tool-assist run of Mario 3

ugh - I hate the phrase "tool-assisted" in describing those so-called speed runs.

Call it what it is - cheating.

whoever calls them tool-assisted is simply legitimizing them.

For enthusiasts, a Speed Run is still a player sitting down and recording themselves playing a game without cheats as quickly as they can from start to finish. The 11-minute SMB3 from Morimoto is a newer type of speedrun dubbed Tool-Assisted Speedrun or TAS.

benstylus: the "tool-assisted" label is simply to categorize. It can help someone find one, but it can help you to avoid them as well.
Most players that make these know that this is a form of cheating and do not consider their result to be a proper record or score. However, I have seen TAS videos uploaded by non-authors who claim them to be records or legitimate.

I wouldn't say ALL meaning. It still has meaning in FAQ's.
