Got a new TV today!....
It's a 20 inch Magnovox; only cost $109!
While the picture is a lot better then the TV with the burn-out AV jacks that I had, the sound isn't quite as good because the AV inputs only include white and yellow-no red. The sales rep at Circuit City told me that you can buy some kind of adapter to add the red jack; I have no idea what one of those would look like, or is called.
Sony should have gotten my PSTwo this morning; I wonder if they'll just return it to me, or send me a new one. Whatever, I can't wait to get back into PS2 gaming, even though I still have the DC!

Actually there is such an adapter - it's just called a "Y adaptor", or sometimes a "Y adaptor - 2 female to 1 male". It accepts both left and right audio inputs, and will output a single signal that contains both channels. The advantage to this setup is that you don't need to set anything to mono, you can simply leave it on stereo - and while your sound will still only come through in mono, you won't miss anything that would otherwise be left out by only using one channel.
EDIT - this adaptor should cost less than five bucks and is available at nearly any electronics store.
EDIT2 - here's what you're looking for: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... id=42-2536

Thanks!
So, which AV input jack do I plug this into?
Also, I am afraid that with only two AV jacks that I won't be able to use an adapter that has multiple AV jacks-remember the one's on my old TV got burn out, and I don't want that to happen again. Of course I was in my impulsive stage where I was constantly plugging in and out new and different consoles, with their corresponding AV cables.

about how long of this kind of activity can a tv take? will it really ruin the inputs? i've got a switcher for my Saturn, VCR, Xbox, and us PS2. my Genesis, jp PS2, PC Engine Duo, GC, and DC all the share the front port. been meaning to buy another switcher box (and eventually the us ps2 will get a component cable).dave4shmups wrote:Of course I was in my impulsive stage where I was constantly plugging in and out new and different consoles, with their corresponding AV cables.

It's definitely the TV jack's problem. I've got a VCR from 1990 that still has operational jacks through occasional use even though the heads are messed up. I have another VCR from about 1998 where both front and rear video jacks died in about 3 months. On the other hand, my TV from 1998 serves every one of my systems as well as a DVD player and its jacks still work perfectly.

My point was, you spent a lot of money for a shitty picture, and I feel bad for you. Composite is shit, no matter how big or small or soundly-built the set is. You could've had s-video and component had you done some research and paid a little more.dave4shmups wrote:My apologies OmegaFlareX, I thought composite video referred to older TV's that have NO AV jacks on them at all-in other words, TV's that you can only use RF on.

OmegaFlareX, I didn't pay for the TV, I don't have that much money; my folks did, and that was as expensive as they we're willing to go, which was still very generous of them, IMO.
And composite or not, I'm telling you that this thing has a MUCH better, sharper picture then the TV I had before that burnt out.
