Really, 10 years... I could have sworn it went at least 15 years without updates.

Seriously though, if you subtract the time it spent in suspended animation it's really only 6 years old.

Haha, I hadn't thought of that...

I only meant a temporary shutdown, anyway!

...Do you think anyone would actually be able to tell the difference between that and how it is now? 'Zing ;)

Suggestions:

- we could hold a tournament. Yeah, this would be a way to toast ten years!

- we could, hmm, write new reviews. To add them in the "reviews" section of the forum, of course.

- we could receive a letter from Malc! This doesn't require much preparation on our side too.

- we could pm all the veterans. I'm sure many of us have fond memories about shmuppers which don't post anymore. Okay, this would be a bit harrassing their privacy, I admit.

- we could organize a Shmeet. London, perhaps?

what else? Oh yes! We could change our avatars for that day with something special like, hmm, a birthday cake. Err...

Or we could start a new website and actually update it every now and then?

I registered there as well, but i was never a regular. I think i picked some generic username like ROX because that's what i used to use for the scoreboards in the arcades. Then someone made fun of me for it lol. When it shut down i probably had a post count of like 12 or something. I barely remember what it even looked like. This version of the board caught my attention alot more. I love the way it looks and how most everybody seems to have a decent level of literacy and intelligence. ^.^ You guys rock.

LOL, I remember as soon as I got on the mkII forum I started to argue with jp over "TFV SS or PS"... :D

Then I met Malc, and he redirected me on the new/old site - which I wasn't aware of at all. mkII was all I knew and in retrospective, it wasn't half bad as a webpage.

Though this one is the best yet. Especially the starfield forum rocks!

I agree with circuitface, this board is really neat; thanks to some magical MoronGate (TM) it seems there are hardly any people with an IQ below room-temperature.

The website is nothing to write home about though, especially since it's been dead for years. Which is very unfortunate.

It's amazing. Seems just like yesterday when Akira, Felix and the old gang were getting the 5th anniversary articles ready for gamespy. Old Murdoch says 10 more years. 8)

Man, I remember visiting the site in college during my freshman year when it was first online. What a halcyon time that was both for the shmups community & myself. Good memories of rediscovering shmups & rekindling the love of the game.

Yes, it ´s great...good memories...nice people...blabla, but what I really want to know is (to get back to Turrican´s original question):

Are we gonna do something special to celebrate or what? :?:*

*(I´ll do everything I humanly can to try and veto any ideas suggesting we should have a Cho Aniki cosplay party though! :P)

At noon we shall stand facing the server (have a compass ready ;)) and shout really loud "Shoot the core".

By the way, where is the server located ? :P

1. Get every forum member with a webcam/digital camera with movie/camcorder to record themselves singing a small part (in A cappella) to Ghegs' lyrics for Tate'd For The Very First Time; sober, drunk, in groups, whatever.
2. Everybody sends their video clip to a guy, he edits the clips together to complete the song.
3. The guy gets an intramental remix or kareoke version of Madonna - Like a Virgin and matches it to the video clips
4. Post it here, youtube, wherever.
5. Laughing, smiling, and toasts to all.

How about a real Shmups magazine to celebrate 10 years?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Could a full-color Shmups magazine (the one that can be held in your lap and flipped through page-wise) be published of all the great stuff that has happened over the last ten years? It's about time that a real Shmups magazine was created and published...count me in. How about it ol' chap, Malc? ^_~

Yes, I remember signing up when the Shmups.com MkII forum was up and running back in 2000. ^_~

That'd be interesting. Someone put together some of the better stuff from the strategy threads... better yet would be a super play DVD.

Yeah, I remember the good old days when I joined. Several months ago. I actually wanted to sign up about a year previous, I had just bought Ikaruga and found this place, but didn't have a compatible email.

Cheers to ten years and for all of us being here for the next ten. Because we don't have anything better to do.

I noticed a small update on the main page after it was mentioned, at least we know Malc's still alive and hasn't been absorbed into the shmup videogame world (kidnapped by Bacterions, oh my) and that life hasn't swallowed him whole.
