I've been playing multiple credits on ESP Ra.De. because of this. Even if I break my high score, I can continue and it'll allow me to put in my initials.
Only on the 2nd credit used will the ESP.ra.de CPU allow you to insert your high score intials, any further continues results in no high score intial inputs. Please correct me if I'm wrong though. ^_~

(The above listed statement applies with Cave's Ketsui PCB as well.)

I just tried it and an interesting thing happened. I scored 5 million or so on the first credit, and 2 million or so on the second, which qualified for 1st and 3rd on the score board since it resets everytime you turn it off. I continued two more times and at the end of my fourth credit brought up the initial input screen. After I put in initials, the high score board came up and both my scores were on the board under the same initials.
Feedback will set you free.

I completely agree. There are different games though. In some games credit-feed = being way overpowered, and that's not good at all, you risk to memorize wrong patterns.
Anyway, when possible, credit-feeding is absolutely a good thing ;)

One.

On a game with startbacks/checkpoints, like a Gradius or an R-Type, I'll let myself credit feed sometimes for practice, because it doesn't make that much difference. But otherwise? Just one.

Same. (no surprise) If I *really* like a game its a rule... I don't want to see the ending screen if I 'don't' deserve it (and if its not hard enough move the difficulty up as well - like in G Darius or Wild Guns...)

But you know, its its not that great of a game, but its ok, and I just want to play through it once, and (important) if it offers LIMITED continues (none of that free play crap) I'll use the three or whatever they give you credits to beat it (or get far, whatever.) Then I'll come back later and try to 1cc it.

Thats one of the reasons I really dislike unlimited continues. I mean, some games I just want to complete, but I do still want a challenge. And while I know I will 1cc them and that is a far harder challenge, I just want to practice and see whats up next, but without credit feeding.

Still, whenever I'm with doing co-op with a friend, we'll credit feed (as much as possible anyway) and chat - wouldn't be much fun otherwise!

I'll use as many as it takes to get better at later levels if the game has no practice mode.

Otherwise, just the one.

Well ususally 9 then I keep working to get lower and lower.

I try to keep it within a reasonable monetary amount.

I'm flexible about it.

I usually play more leisurely and prioritize more on trying to "complete" the game. In this regard, using multi-credits is no big deal.

When I play seriously and focus on "beating" the game, then 1 credit or bust. I tend to do this more for the shooters I like more than others, singling them out as 1cc candidates.

Always 1.
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

Yeah, same with me. I usually don't credit feed, but I sometimes do it to see more of the game, but when I want to give a more serious play I don't credit feed.

Usually 1, but I don't feel that guilty about feeding in R-Type.

Though if I'm playing with a friend who's not into shmups (all of them, basically) I'll usually credit feed with them to the end.

I don't particularly often play credits at all, since I usually find more entertainment in stage practice modes. When I do, I continue if I lose near a new stage practice unlock checkpoint because [see above], otherwise not. While I do see the appeal of a clear as a kind of milestone, I don't play non-narrative games to 'complete' them in the first place - a scrubtastic clear I'm not really satisfied with no more constitutes 'beating' a game in my mind than using ten credits would.

1 in general. It's really the only way if you're going for a high score.

Credit feed on occasion if it's a checkpoint game or if I'm just playing for the hell of it. Also, I'll credit feed when playing with a friend.

I usually used single credit. But once a while I would credit feed through the game.

I like to play in pratice mode.

I usually do 1 credit, but sometimes I will play until I am at the point where i'm losing lives at a regular rate.

Depends on the game as well. If its like Gradius or Rtype where your basically restarting a hard part with zero power ups, I'd probably credit feed or give up immediately depending on the situation.

On Cave games, you usually get all your firepower back, or most of it. So you can see how far you would of got had you not got hit.
