Anything going on shmup-wise w/ Success and/or Skonec?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Anything down the pipeline shmup-wise with Success and/or Skonec?

As it stands, it's almost into mid-2007 and no new major shmup news from the head-honchos of Success and/or Skonec?

It would seem that Psyvariar 3 would ripe for an official announcement (assuming if it is under developement). And could Psyvariar's "Buzz" mechanics & bullet patterns be improved from what was released for Psy-2:TWtF shmup title?

It would be interesting to listen to what Tetsuro Sato can create BGM-wise for Psyvariar 3, don't you agree? ^_~

Here's the breakdown of all the Psyvariar arcade titles & the respectable arcade hardware platforms that they were released on:

1.) Psyvariar Medium Unit G-Gard -- for Taito G-Net mobo (released in March of 2000 for Japanese arcades)

2.) Psyvariar Revision G-Card -- for Taito G-Net mobo (released in September of 2000 for Japanese arcades)

3.) Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate GD-Rom disc -- Sega Naomi with GD-Rom interface setup

4.) Psyvariar 3? -- for what suitable current arcade platform (Taito Type X, Sega Naomi, etc.)?

Did Skonec have a hand in the developement of the first two Psyvariar arcade titles (besides Psyvariar 2)?

Is there any VG developer out there who hasn't entered the pachinko biz in at least some capacity?

In any event, I still fantasize about Cotton 3.

Perhaps she has a high metabolism rate anyways, with her figure being so striking fit & trim...and a fetish for her beloved "Willows" candies (of which she still can't get enough of) -- yummy-yummy. ^_~

Okay, aside from nopan and Cotton maybe or maybe not looking like the girl on the cover of the MMP poster (in terms of being a little older and eating food)... I would be so excited to see a Psyvariar 3 announced!

From what I've heard about the first, the second is one of those installments that is improved in every way and refined in the sense that the game system adjustments seem almost obvious in retrospect. I don't doubt at all that they could do it again with a third game, and yes, I think that another Psyvariar soundtrack by Tetsuro Sato & Co. would be a big reason to look forward to the game in my case. :D

(I'm actually trying to find the soundtrack to the original, since I've heard the music in low-quality level superplays. I'll be posting a WTB in the trading station hopefully soon.)

A Homura sequel does sound more likely, so I would believe that. (If they worked on Psyvariar 2, then Homura, then helped with Shikigami no Shiro III, then I could imagine them going back to the Homura franchise to try some more ideas before pulling out a Psyvariar 3.)

Back to Cotton; I have to say that I've only played Cotton on NGPC for a small bit, but I think that having her the way she is would be best, instead of, say, the girls in Otomedius. (Not that there's anything arong with the girls in Otomedius!)

now that would be sweet!

i wasn't too thrilled with psyvariar: ultimate final, for me it just didn't have the charm of medium unit & revision. still would be interesting where they would take the franchise next.

think that the ost only shipped with the ltd. edition "psyvariar: complete edition - special sound sound" (blue cover). there is also a ltd. special video edition (green cover) that comes with a dvd with rather extremely awesome superplays of medium unit and revision. the standard version of "psyvariar: complete edition" comes with only the game (no superplay, no soundtrack).

Either they packed a jewel case in there or the Psyvariar Originalsoundtrack (yeah, it's all one word on the spine) was sold separately as well.

Never seen that. I've only seen the OST for the second released as an individual product.

Also, I think it's Psyvariar Complete Edition Sound Box and Psyvariar Complete Edition Capture Box (for the version that includes the OST and the version that includes the replay DVD, respectively).

For Kiken,

You're correct in that Success did release three different versions of Psyvariar Complete:

1.) Psyvariar Complete (just the game by itself)

2.) Psyvariar Complete Edition Sound Box (game with both Psyvariar Medium Unit + Psyvariar Revision & Psyvariar OST music CD)

and lastly,

3.) Psyvariar Complete Edition Capture Box (game + Reverse Babel's Psyvariar Appreciate DVD Vol. 1 superplay DVD)

The Psyvariar Appreciate DVD Vol. 1 was available for a very limited time as a seperate purchase through Success' "Reverse Babel" Label division -- it quickly sold out of it's intial printing back in 2001... ^_~

Then Success re-released both seperate versions of Psyvariar Medium Unit & Psyvariar Revision on seperate discs as part of their Super Lite 1500 series (but no additional Psyvariar OST or Psyvariar Apperciate DVD Vol. 1 was included with either seperate re-released Psy-MU or Psy-R game discs). As to why they did that...is beyond me -- both Psyvariar games can easily fit on a standard PS2 'blue-colored' CD-Rom disc as it is...

It seems the lucky shmuppers who got the Sound Box version wish that they had the Special Capture Box instead whereas vice versa for the ones who did score the Capture Box wish for the Sound Box version as well..... ^_~
