Hi all:
I just got ESPgaluda for my PS-2. I must say, I enjoy DOJ more because of its difficulty. I suppose one day I could achieve the ZEN like state required to play it 1CC. For now, my best survival run ever is to the lvl 4 big cannon.
I find a couple things really help.
1) TaTe: You can't dodge what you can't see clearly. Tate for a bigger screen.
2) Bullet behind bullet: When bullet trajectories cross one another, the bigger one tends to hide the smaller one. In order to dodge both bullets, I try to spot the smaller bullet entering the big one first, and then remember the smaller bullet's trajectory so I don't get in its way. Unfortunately, I am not all that successful with this. This 'feature' alone costs me at least one ship in stage 3 every time.
3) Different pattern during boss fight: I think the bullets tend to be aimed at you during the level fly-by, and spread in set patterns during boss-fights. Exceptions abound, of course, but I find that I have to mentally prepare for a different game when fighting bosses.
In comparison to Shikigami no shiro 2 and EspGaluda, I find DOJ to be much more difficult, and that's why it's so great.
Cheers.

So, I played DDPDOJ for about an hour last night...

I don't see what was quite so funny about it, but you're welcome?BAD wrote:Rob, Pirate1019: Hahaha..you guys are awesome. The chair dialogue was classic...
If it wasn't implied strongly enough in my previous posts, I don't normally play like that. I have my very own comfortable chair that I sit in and play on my comfortably sized television. That picture was taken at my buddies house and he has no chairs to speak of and his TV is pretty small. I couldn't sit on the floor since his TV was too high to see from the floor. Needless to say I only played a single credit like that.

Mushihimesama Maniac Mode = WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY easier than DDP: DOJ.
After playing a bit of Mushi I was getting to the third boss quite consistantly. The first time I made it to stage 4 (with no lives left) I cleared it, just winging it the whole way (and bombing once or twice), and then died about 1/4 of the way through stage 5. I've played a bit less DOJ, and I can make it to stage 3 consistantly, but Stage 3 stomps me HARD, and if I DID make it to stage 4, I GAURANTEE it'd stomp me flatter than a pancake, whereas Mushi's isn't so bad.
Though, I played a fair deal of DDP, ESPgaluda, and some other shooters inbetween DOJ and Mushi. Perhaps I improved at shmups? o_O That possibility is laughable though... me? Improve? HAH!

you can't be afraid to die! Push it to the limit!

Yeah, learn to use the bomb and switch to B-S (actually, having gotten used to the slower ship, I feel the A type is too fast!)BiQ wrote:
The problem is, unless I can get the extra ships at 10 000 000 and 30 000 000, (PS2 version gives them by default, should it be something else?) I have no hope whatsoever to reach the stage 3 boss...
Or, it might be the fact that I really don't feel like playing with anything else but A-E, which is not really known as the survival player's choice... I can't really use bombs (I always hit the bomb button too late) so I figured that if I have no bomb-using skills, then why not trade the bombs out for better weapons?
The most critical thing for a low-performing player like me getting into (and maybe someday beating) level 3 is the extra life you can pick up at the end of level 2. You need to have a hyper after the mid-boss and use it when you get swarmed before the boss. This should give you the extra life.
And of course, if you are playing type B you start getting huge numbers of bombs -- use them!

I want to know too, although its pretty much guranteed to be over $600, which I'm going to spend on Espgaluda 2 first.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:How much does a used Dodonpachi-DOJ "Black Label" PCB go for these days in Japan (considering that only 100 of them were manufactured)?
Sure, one can try out the "Black Label" version on the Arika PS2 import port of DDP-DOJ..... ^_~
