A,053,470 - Macaw - Stage 7 - Strawman (A)

Dropped my medals at the end of stage 6, but recovered in stage 7 and bombed most of the secret locations for 10k. Died on the turrets before the boss (yet again). Missed out on about 500k in the first three stages because I screwed up almost everything, I'm surprised I managed to recover. Fought all 3 rivals.

How disappointing. Two silly mistakes at Glow Squid, the last being a first form double KO. ;_;

SPECIAL COURSE
8,181,500 - Icarus - Stage 17 (Glow Squid) - Strawman (A) / Flying Baron (C) / Bornnam (A)

Image Image

Pulled a rather obscene amount of points from Bashinet2 and Black Heart2, though.
Over 9mil when the ALL18 hits, maybe?
Replay available.

DEL - 7,702,340 - 6-ALL - Strawman (A) / Flying Baron (B) / Miyamoto (C) Photo to follow...

Failed to trigger Sobut & missed the 100,000 for the Hovercraft 3 lives remaining bonus. I guess 8mil+ with those...

I won't have more than a couple of evenings gametime before the Meet (7 Trade Shows in less than 2 months)

Hey guys, I'm looking to get into this game, and I just have one quick question. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'd be here for days looking through all the APB threads.

I know how the game has a starting rank variable which, opposite of Battle Garegga, is actually at its highest when the PCB is turned on and lowers with every attract mode cycle. In other words, when you first turn the game on, you need to let the attract mode run for a while to keep your rank from being too high at the start, right?.

I'm playing in MAME, and it seems like an obvious way to get around waiting for this would be to use save states. In my experience so far, and as you probably all know, MAME will glitch out if you don't load a save state properly in APB. I found that making a state at the title screen, then letting the game cycle to the same screen later and loading it then, is the only way to make a state load successfully. However, there is something strange going on: I made my state at the title screen with no credit inserted, but if I insert a credit and then load the state, I will still have that credit. That means, I think, that not all variables in the game are preserved within any given save state.

So my question is, can any of you players attune to the rank system and familiar with playing APB in MAME tell me if the starting rank variable can be preserved in a save state? Is this what all of you do? And while I'm thinking about it, how long/how many cycles does it take to lower the rank variable sufficiently, anyway?

Thanks!

All scores will be updated next week, as I am in London (sightseeing, visiting family and attending London Meet IV), and without permanent internet at the moment, at least until I sort out my cousin's wireless router and MacMini.

Apologies for the inconvenience. Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Scores are updated. I think.
Please double-check your scores just to make sure, I've been slacking off a bit. ^_-

Yes, you can save the minimum rank level in a state if required. You MUST pause the game at the title screen prior to saving your state, and must reload from the title screen as well.

It takes about 20mins at MAME throttled speed (press F10) to reset the rank down to minimum from bootup.

As promised at the London Meet:

Player: Icarus // Armed Police Batrider

- Advanced, 11.48mil to Stage 7, Strawman Only (XVID - 215MB)
- Special, 8.18mil to Stage 17, Teamplay (XVID - 165MB)

I'll be coming back to this soon, so hopefully some more improvements to the scores are coming.

NORMAL COURSE:
3,474,050 - Dandy J - ALL - Maria (C)

I'll definitely be improving this, I couldn't even keep a medal chain, nor did I try and fight any of the extra bosses.

BTW Thanks to Icarus, NTSC-J, Matt, and everyone else who posted Batrider secrets/strats. I really don't think I could've done much without them. :p

Couple more scores to add, not progressing very much but this game rocks so I'll keep at it:

Normal Course

zero.otaku - 3718580 - ALL - Strawman (A)

Advance Course

zero.otaku - 4009320 - Stage 6 - Strawman (A)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scored horrendously during that Advanced course run, didn't even come close to what I usually do on Normal. Curse you, Ayanami, how are you doing it? I'll get you soon enough, heh heh =p

I think I'm finally getting the feel for how Batrider is supposed to be played. All I needed was to be less dependant on bombs to get through the boss fights so I can use them for the levels. I'm also getting better at medal chaining too.

Ack, no, for some reason Windows doesn't recognize it at all. I figured it would work since it's USB but alas, such is not the case. Thanks for letting me borrow it anyhow.

Real damn close to that 500k bonus, but I decided to waste 2 bombs on the side pods in a vain effort to destroy them instead of waiting until I actually needed them.
