I watched the run, and it was pretty crazy. And whoa, it's actually possible to dodge the 1-6 boss's red pattern? That's insane. And all that chaining... HOLY SHIT. WTF 2nd extend before stage 3 o.o You're crazy!

Also, I got a new score. The run was too wussy to unlock loop 2 though.

sohe-sama - 42'683'040 - C-S - 1-ALL - 254

I was hoping I'd get a 330+ chain off stage 5, but I had to bomb somewhere in the beginning... >_>

Man, I'm pretty wimpy compared to everyone getting these awesome 100M+ scores.
My advice: Focus on survival. Chains will come later. As you can see by my score, by chaining is actually pretty medicore. The secret to my success? MAXIMUM BOMB BONUS. I got that bonus in 1-2 and ran with to 1-5 I believe(Was it 1-6? I can't remeber). That thing works like gangbusters. Remeber that its 2x bonus when you have a full stock.

The force is strong with this one! Excellent chains, and use of bombs (not to liberal, yet not stupidly conservative). A very nice run. Why you didn't want to enter you initials at the end I don't know. Now anyone can take that replay and put in their own initials at the end!

I don't think anyone is really that desperate to steal someone's replay.

Theif: "LOL, hey guys look, I got almost a 100 million on DDP! CHECK THE REPLAY!"

Guys: "LOL Awesomesauce!"

Pro: "Actually, that's my replay, you stole from me off the shmups forum."

Guys: *glare at theif*

Theif: WTF hax lol *runs*

Just received my PSX version of this. :D

I can confirm that it differs quite substantially from the Mame version. I'm pretty disappointed to discover the 'slow down' option, especially as it cannot be disabled, merely assigned to an awkward button. Needless to say, I won't be using this feature but it makes me wonder why on earth it was included anyway!?

Crap score to follow...

how does it differ ?

I've seen NTSC-J saying that playing the mame version for score was a waste of time because it's slower or something.

Is the PSX version faster ?

Probably you can say that about the ports. The mame version is good, considering something noticed by Dave K. a lot of months ago: there is a slight difference even between two boards!

NTSC-J might have posted that a couple years ago. Now the mame verison is FASTER than the PCB. And yes I've owned two different DDP PCBs that had slight (but noticable) differences in slowdown.

Ah that's actually relieving to know the version i'm used to playing is actually slightly harder, and not easier than the original PCB lol~

Crazy thing that 2 PCBs have difference in speed.
interesting anyway~

btw, how much faster the mame version is from the average PCB ? (in % ?)

Just got the PlayStation version the other day and am trying to enjoy this game like the rest of the world. Well here is my best score.

Sonic R - 8,098,880 - C-L - 1-4 - 138

I not very good at this game.

Of note the PlayStation version has a 'wait' button which almost feels like cheating. I was using this feature which helps me ALOT. I would not have gotten to stage 4 with out it so I understand if this score is not eligible.

EDIT:
OMG I am not last place! I gots a better score!

Sonic R - 9,444,970 - C-S - 1-4 - 146

Wait gives slowdown that emulates that in the arcade version on ports IIRC.

I think he's talking about the slowdown button. Scores using this are not valid for the board. Its fine to use for practice though! :D

Yes I was talking about the wait button.

I figure that my score would not be valid. I had just hit 10 million.

The game is much easy with the wait button. There is no way I could be this good at DoDonPachi.

Actually I think you're supposed to use wait. Could be wrong though. On MAME, I get slowdown when there's lots of bullets on screen, which would be during...

1) Blue laser attack when 2nd boss's lifebar is red
2) While harvesting the stage 3 green ships for bullet cancellation.
3) Certain sections of stage 4, 5, 6 (not bosses though)

You are wrong. There is a big difference between normal slowdown in the game due to massive amounts of bullets, and the slowdown button on the PSX port.

He was talking about the wait option, not the slowdown button (press start to bring up Wait = on/off option).

I've played the PSX a bit more now, and DDP does seem a little faster than the Mame version. I would say the handling feels different too, but that would be a stupid thing to come out with as I'm using a Saturn pad for Mame, and a Hori stick for PSX.

I'm still not entirely convinced that it's your score. Please submit an image with your high scores without having your initals obscured.

He did submit a screenshot (http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 011ki3.png) but ignorged my comments to record/post the replay before doing so. Interesting. :?

On the contray, I did indeed post a screenshot with my intials JPC clearly visable, as Dave K. was so kindly to repost. Alas, I don't have an INP to demostrate to you all, and I'm very sorry at that inconvience. All I can give you is the fact that you would have to be pretty damn pathetic to fake high scores. Trust me, my score is completely legit; earned after years of studying, memorizing, and consistent playing.

Edit: On a different note, don't settle for a keyboard! I got this PSX adapter from RadioShack for 10 bucks. The DualShock PS2 controller is easily one of gaming's finest, and fits well with 2d AND 3d roms.

Don't take it too personally, but you did come onto the boards here with a first post that is pretty remarkable, on April Fools day, with an image that had your initials blocked out! If you had been a regular member on here for those two years your were practicing, posting your progess, nobody would have doubted you.

Really, I mean I told him if he was going to try to get back to that score, to at least record a WolfMame INP so there would be no doubt, and he just ignored the comments all together, even when I asked where it was after he posted the screen shot. :?

I realize that my first post was a bit misleading with the join date/messed intials, and I know that my lack of a replay is very disturbing, but I'm honestly not going to go about and fake a high score for a video game. Everytime I put on the ol' "Play and record input", there's this little bug pricking me in the back of the head to **** up. I choke up a boss patern. I forget to laser this big enemy/base to chain. I screw up and miss the "bee bridge" to the point that I curse the game and throw the controller to the side; vowing never to play it again.

I can see the importance of a replay if this was some HUGE score. 200 million-800 million, something like that...but I disgress. One day soon, I will overcome this obstacle. I will film a replay showcasing my decent piloting skills for all to see; then I will laugh and rejoice in the glory of that day. Untill then, you must simply have faith that your fellow shmups' fan is a honest legit player, and lover of the world's greatest 2d shooter.
