Sol-Feace, Sol-Deace, whichever applies to you.
Is the Sega-CD port any different compared to its MegaDrive counterpart?

I think the only real difference is the greatly improved soundtrack and the inclusion of some cut scenes. There may be more but it's been a while since I've played either of them.

The sega cd version is worth getting because the soundtrack is very good. This was the first sega cd game I played back in the day because it came bundled with the sega cd.

I picked my copy of Sol-Feace up for $5. Don't pay more than that. The improved CD soundtrack & cutscenes aren't enough to take this mediocre game out of that pack of "okay" games.

Yep, but the MD version is good enough (I think the MCD-version has the worst soundtrack out of those three).

I saw some extremely minor graphical upgrades published in a magazine back in the day. A few more tiles in the backgrounds, stuff like that. Other than that I believe the only difference is in the sound quality, and I actually prefer the cartridge version.

The Sega CD version also has a bit less flicker and slowdown.

However, I like the ending on the cart version better. The effect with the credits was pretty cool back in the day, and the ending itself is noticeably longer (both the graphics, and the text, sections).

I'm probably one of the few people who really like this game. It has a nice clean style without any frivolous crap, and its simplicity is what draws me in. I don't have to worry about chains and combos and stuff, just shoot and have fun.

I have the MCD version, but this thread inspired me to fire up the MD version in an emulator. It's been a while for me, but the gameplay seems nearly identical. They're both under $5 aren't they? Won't kill you to get them both as you come across them...

Don't know about the X68K version. I keep forgetting it even exists, since I find the two Sega versions to be playable enough.

The Mega Drive's soundtrack is still impressive though. After hearing the CD soundtrack so much, I was still able to enjoy the cartridge soundtrack. It's nice hearing where those nice compositions came from. Another nice Motoi Sakuraba-scored game is El Viento. Although not a shmup...
