Shmups in the last 5 years

Post by Berty »

Hi,

I am trying to compile my databse of shmups, but i know that i am missing some ARCADE shmups from the list that have been released in the last few years. Using my own resource (and memory  ) and the Xenocide files I have come up with the following list of arcade games.

I know that i am still missing some and i need help to fill in the gaps/mistakes.

2000
1944 The Loop Master (Capcom)
Dimahou / Great Mahou Daisakusen (Raizing)
Dragon Blaze (Psikyo)
Mars Matrix - Hyper Solid Shooting (Capcom/Takumi)
Prehistoric Isle 2 (Yumekobo)
Brave Blade (Raizing)
1945kIII (Oriental)
Mission Craft (Sun)

2001
Psyvariar Revision (Success)
Vasara (Visco)
Do DonPachi 2 : Bee Storm (Cave)
Ikaruga (Treasure)
Giga Wing 2 (Capcom/Takumi)
Night Raid (Takumi)
Shikigami no Shiro (Alfa Systems)
Zero Gunner 2 (Psikyo)
Progear (Capcom/Cave)
Fire Hawk (ESD)
Vasara 2 (Visco)

2002
Ketsui - Kizuna Jigoku Tachi (Cave)
Do DonPachi 3 / Do DonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou (Cave)
Cutey Fatty (Wecom)
G-Stream G2020 (Oriental Soft Japan)

2003
EspGaluda (Cave)
Psyvariar 2 - The Will to Fabricate (Skontec/Success)
Shikigami no Shiro II (Alfa Systems)
Dodonpachi Dai-Oujou (Atlas/Cave)
XII Stag (Able)
Border Down (G-Rev)

2004
Chaos Field (Able)
Trizeal (???)
Mushihimesama (Cave)

EDITED with corrections, geez 2002 was a slow year, anyone have any ideas why?

Ur list includes non arcade games though too?

There's that Star Soldier game released for GC and PS2 a year or 2 (or 3  ) back. Giga Wing Generations for PS2, also.
Treasure.

They're all arcade games that I noticed. BTW, Raizing made Brave Blade and IGS actually made DDPII.

Anyway, there was also:

Psyvariar Medium Unit
Vasara 2
Cannon Spike
Mushihimesama
Ibara

And the Korean 1945k III.

Ketsui Kizuna Jigoku Tachi and Dodonpachi daioujou are listed twice. Both games were released 2002.
Psyvariar 2 is by Skonec/Success.
Psikyo's Gunbarich is actually an Arkanoid/Breakout game, not a shmup.

2000:
1945kIII (Oriental)
Mission Craft (Sun) [Shmup with sprites ripped from Starcraft/Brood War. zerg rush!]

2001:
Fire Hawk (ESD)
Vasara 2 (Visco)

2002:
Cutey Fatty (Wecom)
G-Stream G2020 (Oriental Soft Japan)

2004:
Mushihimesama (Cave)

If your list does not need to be comprehensive, then skip these except for Mushihimesama :)

2000: Psyvariar Medium Unit
2001: Vasara 2
2000: Cannon Spike
2004: Mushihimesama
2005: Ibara

Yes, Medium Unit was on the GNet followed by Revision and then the PS2 Complete Edition with both and then separated back into individual SuperLite budget games.

Do DonPachi 2 : Bee Storm (Cave)
This pile of shit was NOT developed by Cave.

Who it actually was, I don't recall...I'm sure the review on shmups.com has that.

oxtsu: the 1945kIII in question is this one: http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/1945kiii (not the Strikers game).

Ketsui itself has a stamp of 2002 in it (ditto daioujou), not that that means it was necessarily released in that year. I take it Ketsui was not released until 2003?

lol, that title's awesome.

You sure Prehistoric Isle 2 came in 2000 and not 1999?

Another addition (it's not developed in modern times though):

2002 -September
Ultimate Ecology [re-sale] (Capcom)

Thanks for clarifying. I was stumped on this title when you mentioned it was developed by Oriental Soft. It's assumed that 1945kIII was the international version of Strikers '99 from Psikyo. Apparently it's not. Still, I researched and found the title listed as released in 1999, same as 'Strikers 1999' (don't have the link off-hand, but can post it later if requested).

Correct, it was actually released in January '03. Probably it was already a completed 'master version' a couple months before, and that's why the 2002 copyright is taken in the game itself.

It's released in '99 for sure.
