US Shmup Support

Post by Aquas »

Radilgy and Raiden 3 are upcoming this April ('07) (expectedly.) Will you support the US shmup scene, to encourage publishers to release US releases of more shoot'em'ups?

Personally, I want to buy one of them. I wonder if my fascination is only temporary into these things called "Shmups," I'm still finding out.

Radilgy looks god awful. So no go on that one.
If Raiden 3 really does come out soon, then yeah, I'll buy it. Not to support the scene, but because I don't own it and I want to play it, no matter how bad.

I'll probably buy any shmup that gets localized as all of the rest of you should.

Strong sales are the only thing that could possibly bring shmups back to a semi-relavant level in the US.

April 18th as I confirmed with an EB rep in person.

On topic, I'd say I'd get Raiden 3 if the save file was compatible with the NTSC-J version... haha.

I already buy all of them. My dollars go toward shoot them up games that are release in the USA. (I wasn't fan of Chaos Field but I buy it upon release at full price $29.99)

I will be buying both. I don't own either and it is a chance to support the scene.

Strong sales won't happen from existing fans, the audience would have to expand. These games aren't that good anyways. And many of the existing fans have already bought these before. Basically, there are really only a few shooters worth bringing over*, these are not it, and it'd be good to add incentive for people who already played them (like a contest or something).

*Like how about Dai-Ou-Jou? I'd easily pay $30 for that.

Buy them again? I'm afraid I'll have to pass. Raiden III did draw me in for a time, but neither is terribly addictive, as far as I'm concerned. No worry that my copies are going to wear out.

I'll get Raiden III, but I already own a japanese Radirgy for the GC. Not my favorite game, to say the least.

I've got Raiden 3 pre-ordered and I plan to have a Raiden 3 release celebration shortly after or even ON the day it's released at our practice space - complete w/ flipped TV, beer, vodka, and chips and salsa. I don't care what people say about R3. I see it as doing my part to show the publishers that the shooter is still both appreciated and enjoyed here in the good ol' US. Maybe they'll take the hint and release more, maybe they won't. I know they'll never return to the mainstream - and I seriously hope they don't. I'll adopt that ultra-cheesy, super-lazy contrived subheading from all of the periodicals way back in the early 90's as a mantra; "Shooter Fans Rejoice!" I can be happy with that. That's about as American as it gets right there.
The party is also a great excuse to get molered.

I'll get Raiden III because the game's quite alright as it is, and the $10 price tag isn't really going to break my wallet much.

I'll get Radio Allergy to finally be able to read the damn in-game text in a language that I can read properly.

Hey, I bought Chaos Field about two or so weeks after it's release, and I didn't even have a Gamecube! :o

I'm not entirely sure I care whether shmups regain relevance in the US market. I guess the main reason to care is just that greater interest will lead to more shmup development. I already have enough shmups to last my lifetime, really, but I'll grant that more good shmups would be nice.

I suspect, though, that most future releases in the States are going to be distributed by download. I have been doing my job of downloading shmups: I've downloaded one on each of my next-gen systems.

Raiden 3 for sure, it may not be great from what I hear, but it's something in the shmup scene coming to the US.

I'd buy them. Don't see why not.

Well, unless they come out on the PS3, which I don't have.

I'm obligated to get Raiden III since i got tired of waiting and downloaded a crack of the pc version for free. I'd really like to see a home release of Raiden IV in the future you know? Besides, my ps2 shmup collection wouldn't really be complete without it.

Ugh, I wouldn't buy either of those games.

Unfortunately, I've given up the fight when it comes to shooters in the US. I'm much happier just buying and enjoying the imports instead of losing sleep over whether Cave's games and other high-quality shooters will ever come out here.

I'll spend the money, no question, though, if they ever come out via XBLA, etc.

I'll likely get Raiden III, as I enjoyed it. It didn't blow me away, but I have no qualms in purchasing it to show support. Radirgy, on the other hand I didn't care for at all beyond the visual style (maybe I should've spent more time with it. Who knows).

The problem is, both these games have been out a while--so it is really asking those of us who are already supporting the imports to purchase a second time.

The other side of it is that I don't see either of these titles as particularly stellar (probably some disagreement out there on Radio Allergy--but then you have the GC controller to deal with.) So let's see, purchase two titles I don't have a lot of love for a second time.

Right!

To show support it would be better to "advertise" the game for them, as the companys sure as hell won't. Show it to people, say its good arcade action and challenge them to a one credit.

At least people who wants to be "hardcore" might be intriged by that.

Heck, I'd buy 'em both and show 'em off to everyone.

'Course, then again, I'm not a big Radirgy fan, but I'd get it just to support the American shmup market.

Raiden III for sure I'll be buying. I missed my chance to get the import version and I ain't missing the US release of it this time. I already have Radilgy for the PS2 and don't really like it that much except for the graphics style, which is one of the main reasons I bought it.

Probably not; I bought shooters for US PS2 when I was getting back into shooters, but now that I have a JP PS2 which is on a rotated TV, it's just more convenient to get games for that system.

If a shooter came out in the US which didn't have to be played with a vertical orientation, though, I'd probably pick up a copy for convenience's sake.
