Depends on the game. You should be safe w/ the latest version.

What's your OS? Assuming you use Windows, get MAME32.

Asking where to get roms is usually frowned upon. As far as mame is concerned I'd say check out the aforementioned mame32 or http://wolfmame.marpirc.net/ and download wolfmameplus version 099.

Mameplus used to be excellent but it's no longer updated.

You know...I've always wondered WHY it was frowned upon...nobody ever explains that part.

Some forums let you ask, others don't...what's up with that?

It's usually a legal liability thing. Please don't ask for ROMs or a thread will have to get locked.

What about asking for help on how to run mame? I'm terrible with IT, command prompt is a mystery to me.

I haven't used MAME in ages, but there are several GUIs out there so you don't have to deal with the command line.

I've been meaning to ask this question for a while, does anyone know what versions of mame work with save states. I have the newest version of mame, and none of the games I've tried have allowed me to create a save state. They say error or somthing like that.

I've searched the forum before for info on this, but the only solution I could find is to us an older version of mame. Does anyone know where I can get ahold of an older version of mame. I've tried looking for a while, but I've had no luck. Thanks for any info.

.99 works fine with save states. I forget if that's the last one before they changed it or not.

There are entire websites dedicated to answering these sorts of questions:

http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/

As mentioned, Google is your friend. There are dozens of websites containing thousands of man hours of easy to read documentation. Starting there would be much more sensible than asking someone to explain it all over again in a niche forum.

You didn't try stormwatch's link? He linked to the old mame 32 page with version 0.62. The current link for mame 32 is http://mame32qa.classicgaming.gamespy.com

Is that a linux version? I run Ubuntu on my main desktop, and I've been trying to get other mames to work and I can't. Xmame/gxmame I can't ever get to be true fullscreen, and advancemame I can't get to even run.
