Hi everyone...
Hi, first post here -- I found my way over from the Neo*Geo forum. Being a game collector, and playing plenty of mass-market shooters in the 80s, tracking down shooters for the Neo*Geo I wanted led me to some of the later releases that the US wasn't getting. After checking them out, I quite enamored with the gameplay, as I'm tired of long, drawn out console games and complex PC games. I'm more or less too old for that. It was Ikaruga on the Gamecube (and, probably Einhander, Radiant Silvergun, Gradius V, Viewpoint, and PS2 Espgaluda) that showed me that something cool was still going on in this genre -- Ikaruga was really a breath of fresh air, I just wasn't aware of creative gameplay like this is shooters.
I have a few JAMMA cabinets, and keep an Aero City that I'm restoring vertical, my only previously owned Vert. boards were Namco Classics 1 & 2, Raiden 2, and Dimahoo. Now, thanks to the various bad influences, I picked up an Ibara board, and I'm getting a lot out of playing it. I took the plunge into some classic Cave JAMMA that I found through MAME (but prefer to play from the original hardware) and e.com sent me a DonPachi and a ESP.ra.de. Unfortunately, the ESP.ra.de was bad out of the box (boo! When I could get all the way to a control test screen, the service, 1p/2p start buttons were madly flickering, on multiple cabinets with known good 5v supplies, and reboots after running a very short amount of time), but I've got more than enough to keep me busy while we sort that out.
Thanks for the board and discussion, I hope to learn more.
I've always believed, since the classic days, no game could ever been truly excellent and not be extremely difficult. That must mean there's a whole lot of good 'shmups' out there (I still call them shooters though.)

Welcome to the forums, danox574.
If you are looking for hard games, then you will be most satisfied with newer shmups. Just be aware you sometimes will need some patience until you get better at them. Some folks get frustrated after realizing that 1CCing most arcade shmups isn't such an easy task. Anyway I hope you are enjoying the games you already own and will have fun with other shooting games you'll acquire in future.

The first thing I do is shut off the continue option on every board I have -- yeah, 100 plays and I haven't seen the 3rd boss yet on Ibara, but I have no problem taking the time and effort to get it done.Edge wrote:Welcome to the forums, danox574.

Looks like I might be on my own for the ESP.Ra.De repair though, any source for schematics?

Welcome! The people on the boards are pretty informative and nice, in general. You'll like it here, I think. I don't post a lot, but when you need shmup info, there is tons on this site, in the archives and such. Cheers!
