Quick DDP MAME q

Hey just a quick question. I want to set up my ddp in mame so that the c button is auto fire. i can get to the interface via F2 and can change it, but then I can't exit out of the F2 menu and keep my changes (i can only exit out via F3) . any help? thanks.

EDIT: the advice worked, so you can lock/delete the thread. thanks

Boot up the game, then hold F2, change the settings in the config menu and then hold F2 to go back to the game.

I'm using wolfmame, but that should still work ok.
