Twin Cobra/Kyukyoku Tiger/Tiger Heli
First post. New to the board.. but happy to hear about other twin cobra fans. I built a MAME machine pretty much for this game. The local bowling alley close to me had Twin Cobra just as you walked in the arcade area and it was by far my favorite. My high scores are not close to what you guys are doing but I am still working on it and I have only had the cab up and working for the last few months. The arcade had it so you could play player 2 with the stick in your right hand and fire and bombs are in your left. So... I had to design the cab with this in mind. I use the left stick and P1's buttons.

Twin Cobra (Normal)
SAM - 794,080 - 125 - PSX
Today I decided to play Twin Cobra instead of Kyukyoku Tiger.
Besides check point and instant respwan, it seems to me that the player heli in Twin Cobra got a lower rate of fire and the enemy's fire seems to be more intensive.
The Player Heli seems to fly a bit faster too.
Anyone could comfirm this?

yojo! congrat to your 1cc of Twin Cobra Very Hard.
I cann't believe you really did that, what's a amazing achivement.
I am still stuck at area 125 (around Stage 6 I guess) and NORMAL.
Do you stick to a certain weapon or you change weapon according to the Stage?
P.S. - My Kyukyoku Tiger PCB is shipped, hopely got it by next week.

I always stick to the blue weapon. I only used the green one for the end boss a few stages. This game becomes easy once you memorize the pattern.SAM wrote:yojo! Do you stick to a certain weapon or you change weapon according to the Stage?

If you want a challenge try truxton (but I guess you sold it didnt you ?); it took me ages to 1CC on normal

It's strange, I like the red weapon more. The blue weapon is a bit to weak IMO, due to its speading shoots it lets tough enemy to survive longer to shoot at you. Moreover your ship is to slow for moving close to point blank.yojo! wrote:I always stick to the blue weapon. I only used the green one for the end boss a few stages. You really need the green power for the end boss? You mean those appears one after another in pairs? I have been think of I have to knock one out before the others appears in order to survive.
BTW, I still haven't figure out how to use the Yellow weapon, any one have a clue?

I still have it. I am selling my Saturn/DreamCast games instead.yojo! wrote:If you want a challenge try truxton (but I guess you sold it didnt you ?); it took me ages to 1CC on normal

I think that the wider angle of the spread largely compensates for the weakness of its firepower. Knowing where the enemies are going to show up (especially for the ground targets) allows you to position yourself it such a way that you can hit them with the left or right tip or your spread while hitting head on flying targets. I also make up for the weakness of the firepower by smashing the button REALLY fast. One example of such tactic is for the end level bosses 1 and 5 where you can hit the boss while eliminating tanks that come from the left or right part of the screen.SAM wrote:It's strange, I like the red weapon more. I switch to the green weapon for "stand alone" bosses and use bombs to clear the screen off bullets. For level 4 boss I concentrate on the first touret that comes straight down at you and drop one bomb when it reaches the middle of the screen. It clears the screen up and hits the boss pretty hard too.
I don't use it either. Really effective when you are well positioned. Only japanese half god shmuppers might use it (or DEL)...SAM wrote: BTW, I still haven't figure out how to use the Yellow weapon, any one have a clue?![]()
I'm glad you decided to keep Truxton; it's an awesome shmup. BTW I'm having a blast with your plusAlpha PCB. I play it on Hard and it's really challenging. I can't believe all the easter eggs scattered all over each level. Truly awesome.

i learned to play TC back when it was released in the arcades, and everyone who was good at the game agreed that Blue shot was the one to go for. If you know the layout of the game well you can often get close to large enemies with it and it then becomes more powerful than Red at fairly close range, as well as having the awesome spread of course. The only parts of the game i would change to Green are:
Stage 4 Boss
Stage 7 Boss maybe
Stage 8 Boss maybe
Stage 9 Boss
Yellow weapon is rubbish because every shot has to leave the screen before you can fire again, so it's weak even at close range. Even though there are a few parts where you can shoot stuff behind you it's nearly always quicker to destroy them by waiting to get underneath and using Blue from point blank range

Hi all, first post. It's so fantastic to see there is still so much love and respect for this game.
I first played Twin Cobra back in 1989 when I was still at school. I would go down the local arcade with my friends at lunch time and use all my dinner money playing this beast. I did eventually get very good at playing it which was very satisfying. Actually this was one of the first arcade games I was actually pimp at, along with Mercs and Robocop (Is there a high score chart for these two? Probably slightly off genre for this site.)
Anyway much respect to the guys on top of the high score chart, I'm good, but I aint that good. I think I might be able to get a score somewhere on there though, I do remember completing 1 loop of the game before.
I shall have a go on it later and see what I can do now.
Very nice to have found this place.
Cheers.

Had a go on my newly arrived Twin Cobra board. Lost my first life on Stage 9, then proceeded to get shot point blank in the face with annoying frequency on that bloody 2nd loop
.
Not my record. Not for posting.
Still fuming

Area 440 Stage 18
EDIT 06.12.07:-
Tried again. 2.1mil ST9 for my first life, followed by my highest 1st loop score 2.38mil thanks to successfully pulling off the safe spot method for the Last Boss (ST10). The second loop went fine until ST2-7 and 2-8 where I got slaughtered wholesale
Score was 3.55mil Area: 444
Again, not for posting.
