Old School Maniax Tournament 2007 - Week #3
Game: Earth Defense Force - Super Nintendo
Specifications: Turn up the difficulty to "hard" and reduce the shield stock to "2".
Note: If you die on the first level, you're not allowed to continue despite the fact your score resets to "0" since your power-up meter doesn't reset.

I made it to Stage 3, for now. The game is ok so far, pretty arcade-ish. Well the level design is a bit repititve.
BTW:
Just in case someone of you had trouble finding the game to play it on an emulator: You have to look for "Super Earth Defense Force", as you won't find a SNES game with the title Earth Defense Force.

Bah, I won't probably do better than this - at least for today:
582.600

Also, what the heck is the Secret Bonus??

I'm using Homing for the first stage - and switch to S.Laser on stage two (not that I managed to survive for long in there)...
I'd be interested in hearing some advices from the top players here

Oh, how I loved to whore this game when I was a little kid.
Explode is EXTREMELY useful in Stage 1, where it can kill BOTH the Mid-boss and the boss in less than 10 seconds, given that you point blank.
I use homing for Stage 2, since it can cheaply kill a boss easily. Given that your power is at Lv.3, you can use the "Shadow" formation to line yourself up at the top right screen and your drones lined up vertically and directly behind the boss.
And for the hell of it. I use Atomic for Stage 3, Grenade for Stages 4 and 5, and finally S.Laser for the final stage.

Why did I join this tournament again? I hate old school shmups. Games like this drive me up the wall. My high so far is 115,000 and probably won't get much bigger. I just can't seem to give any of these games a serious go. Besides, Dai-Ou-Jou showed up at my doorstep yesterday and I'm busy being made it's bitch.
