I've said it before (I think) but I'll say it again.

I haven't seen anything before or since that compares to the unspeakable shrieking horror that is... Retro Force...

I agree with that.

I should mention 1942 here as well. Never heard such a crappy sound, Vulgus was far better than that :P
If you want to hear crappy sound coming from an old arcade shmup PCB title by the name of "Darwin 4078" which came out in 1987 for Japanese arcades. The 1986 Capcom produced Sidearms Jamma PCB sounds a whole lot better than with the sound output coming from such a Darwin 4078 PCB IMO. Could be the selected sound chips for each respective PCB that determines the sound output quality, hmmm? ^_~

And how's the original PCE Super CD-Rom2 version of Steam Hearts compared to the Sega Saturn version of the same name?

Sorry, can't answer that question. However, isn't it weird that such a horrible game was ported to PCE, Mega Drive AND Saturn?

If I remember correctly, the PCE CD port was unedited (all the hentai you want without no removal).

Saturn port was edited and most of the hentai shots of the game was removed.

Edit: Steam Hearts was never out on the Megadrive.

Actually, the original is for the PC98 and that one is the only uncensored version (except for mosaic covering the male's naughty bits) - all the others are censored.

And yes, no Megadrive port exists. Only PC98 original, PCE CD and Saturn.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I've not played the PCE SCD Steam Hearts or anything on PC98 but if the game play is anything like the Saturn version then I say it terrible game.

Definitely Storm Blade.

It's so ridiculously bad that it gave me a good laugh the first time I played it.

I have a listing where I list all the video games I play and rate them from 1 star to 5 stars. Storm Blade is the only game that went out of category and got a "LoL" as a rating instead.

although there are probably a lot of games that are more or less worse.

I hate many classics such as R-Type or Raiden. Their gameplay is REALLY LAME compared to today's Cave games. They surely contributed greatly to build the genre, but they really really really suck today imo.

Each to his own, eh?

C64 was goldmine for mediocre to bad shmups. They were so many, in fact, that you had to really stand out to be REALLY, memorably bad.

So, only few stood out for astonishing horridness, and Transformersbeing one of the holy turds. It was difficult to try anything at all in this game.
It's 'ending' should also deserve some award.

My bad, I mistook Steam Hearts for Divine Sealing, which is another real stinker.

I wouldn't call Transformers a shmup. There are platforms (on which you can walk around in robot mode) and there's no forced scrolling.

I understand when people speak me it is not pleasant R-Type Final
Because it he in 10 times is worse R-Type Delta.
But to speak that games of old school bad because they of old school... It is ridiculous.
These are too different genres

Plus Alpha and Eight Forces are the most uninspired shooters that I can think of... Not to mention the ridiculous difficulty level... :x

Will pictures suffice?

:o

Edit:
Actually, I'll make it tomorrow when our internet comes back. Or maybe Friday. But I did 1CC Planet Joker... took me two tries though since you can't pause during boss fights so I was playing it via watching it through my cell phone so I could take pictures, and this is how the final boss killed me.

Edit2:
OK OK, here's a peek:

It SAYS stage 7 but it WAS an AC. :x I hate it when shmups do that. Or how Hyper Duel lists 1CCs as Stage 1. :x

Dunno about Eight Forces but Plus Alpha wasn't too difficult; http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... plus+alpha

I thought the game was ok, at the time.

Like I said, they definitely contributed to build the genre of shooting games. That's why they definitely deserve some credit. But they came at a moment where shmups had a lot more to discover to become the interesting genre that it is today. So they still suck. They don't suck because they're old. I know a lot of very old games that were very finalized products and still really interesting to play even today. Starcraft for example, is now 8 years old, but no company has ever been able to make a RTS as rich and complex. (http://www.fighterforum.com/ for the sceptics ;D)

But R-Type or Raiden are not like that. They're very very poor games compared to what has been done later.

Raiden 1 was uninspiring, but I think a few people here will disagree with you on R-Type.

So you love CAVE eh :?:
