Wait a minute. You played this two times, and cleared it? I only found 1 extend. Not sure if there's another. I find this game pretty challenging, although most of the challenge is in knowing the bosses weaknesses.Nemo wrote:Only got to play twice, never found the 1-up(s) or all this milking people are talking about, but oh well:

Might as well:

I dont mean to brag, but I got this clear just now on my first attempt after not having played the game in years. I used to play this game a lot as a kid though, so I still remembered all the bosses and stuff. In my oppinion the defence move is too good as it blocks just about every normal bullet type.
And whats with so little people using Rocky? He's more awesome in every possible way!

EDIT: Fuck, thought I took first. Nice score, macaw. In my defense, until this competition, I never got passed stage 2. But, the vids & advice here really helped.
I think the balance is good though. It's a challenging game, but once you practice AND learn weaknesses, it becomes liveable. Very old school style... perfect for OSM.

I thought this might be the case, but saw no rules posted in this thread. The main OSM thread seems to be rather long & cluttered. Just a suggestion. Anyways, thanks for your work thus far. I am curious why myself & Macaw aren't on the list though.... can't join in the tournament late?Nemo wrote:Scoreboard updated. Edit: Actually the game didn't end there, it's paused, but I had to submit the score before 17:00 G.M.T. (wasn't that the deadline?)
Sorry for not editing my original score post.. I was in a panic to submit this new score before dl :O

1) You guys didn't sign up before this tourny started
2) Even if you had, your scores came in after the 5AM GMT deadline.
Sorry dude. Nice scores though.

Nah, I actually like playing this, it's just that I was at work, anxiously waiting to get home and try this again... so it was a bummer to notice that it was all for nothing. "Luckily" I got killed by those f*cking turdle-things on the raft pretty soon after submitting the score.RotateMe wrote:Fuck! Sorry dude! What got me confused was that the tournament kind of started on a Tuesday, but the playing week wasn't/isn't a full week. Anyway now I've learned my lesson and will deliver scores (if any) in time.
Some more recommendations:
-Guwange, of course.
-"Hi no tori" (a.k.a. Hinotori a.k.a. Firebird) for the MSX2 computers. It's based on Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix manga and is available in japanese only. Great music, nice graphics. The setting is medieval Japan with mythological creatures.
-Knightmare on the MSX1. It's a bit simplistic but gets better in the later stages.
-There was this really cool asian game for DOS, it was known as "Devil" or maybe "Devil III", but I don't know the original name. Anyone know this one?

Ah... I too am one of the 5AM PM guy's. Guess we should check before. Oh, well, I don't really play for competition anyway.

Well to be fair, the Jap version is like 50% faster.GaijinPunch wrote:

No, sorry, you had to register before the first week. I don't mind people not in tourney posting scores and I considered adding you two to the HS table, but didn't to simplify things for the actual participants. Obviously anyone is free to create a separate, normal thread for this game.GaijinPunch wrote:I thought this might be the case, but saw no rules posted in this thread. What do you mean faster? The frame rate? I popped in the US version briefly and didn't notice any differences...definitely not 50%. Wouldn't that make it harder as well?shoe-sama wrote:Well to be fair, the Jap version is like 50% faster.
@Nemo: No worries. This is most likely the only week I can actively particiapte in anyway. Sam made a big kiki Kaikai thread a while back. I've posted my score, effectively bumping it. Hopefully everyone will jump in.

I think Shoe-sama has been playing the PAL version. Pal releases of all nes, snes, etc titles run about 15-20% slower than the NTSC versions. Give the PAL pocky and rocky a run in an emulator and you will see, its quite a shocking difference after playing the NTSC versions.
