As much as I like R-Type though, after finally getting all 101 ships I have absolutely no reason to go back to the game. it did feel lack-luster, but me and my obsession for beating games fully was the only reason I got everything. ... I'll probably never go back to it, despite how much I loved playing the Helios ship.

You unlocked all 101 ships? It takes some 40 hours or so

. You must really be neurotic about beating games or secretly enjoy RTF. If I don't like a game, I play it for one to five minutes and then move on to something better. Nowadays there is an abundance of great games available, so for me playing one single game for 40 hours means that it has to be great (yeah, I also got all ships/levels and beat it on R-TYPER).

I don't really see why every game should be played again and again. I'm fine with an intense one-time experience (although I will dig RTF up one day for old times sake). New stuff is waiting in the line...

P.S. I also enjoyed Nanostray, so maybe I should have my head examined @_@

"utter rubbish" is an opinion with no reasons behind it.

I want to know why you think it "lacked playability", what about it makes you feel like a kid wrote it, and what specific aspects of it make it "utter rubbish".

I've not played any bad shooters, really. I'd have to say the "worst" that I've played (and by worst I mean I liked it the least), is GigaWing. GigaWing 2 is pretty close, but has 4 player action going for it, which... While not a huge plus for a shooter, does knock it well above the first game.

I paid £15.99 for R-Type Final a good while back, felt very displeased, although I liked the atmosphere and presentation the pacing was too slow for my liking level 6 I quite liked though.....I suppose Gradius V just raised the bar too high for me, I'd say yes r-final worst commercial shop purchase I've made with regard to shmups. But all time hate is bioship paladin.

As for the worst shmup I´ve played, I honestly can´t even remember it´s name. It was a very old (early 80´s) shmup I´ve tried on Mame, which was so slow in responding for movements it was totally unplayable.
It was even worse than 2002 on the GameKing (and that says something).

Should look up it´s name sometime.
