JPS2 SCPH-77000CW Power Adapter ok for US?

Post by Soldato J »

Hey folks, I just bought this from someone

but before I plug it in, I want to be sure I can just plug this into the wall or a surge protector in the USA. Just want to make sure I don't blow it up

These PS2 models have a universal P/S if I'm not mistaken. They should work with 100-240V and 50/60Hz. So you can basically use them anywhere in the world. The plug should be the same at your place. If you're in doubt, check out this site. What I did was this: checked voltage and frequency in my country (230V at 50Hz), then had a look at the P/S specs (printed on the case) and made sure that it works.

A computer surge protector is always good insurance...

For SoldatoJ,

I've got one of those original 2nd generation PS2 SCPH-15000 series consoles: it's rated at 100v 50w 50/60Hz and will work on 120v USA without any problems. However, I use a computer surge protector since the PS2 is basically a computer designed for playing primarily games (unless you've got a Sony PSX Net Yaroze console or a PS2 Linux kit setup). ^_~

By using a computer surge protector with your game consoles, it's just an extra step of protection for your valuable electronics rather than having them plugged directly into an A/C outlet (possible surges or brownouts are harmful to electronics + PC towers/notebook PCs anyways). ^_~

Whenever I use my XRGB-2, it too, is plugged into my computer surge protector when I want to use it..... ^_~

What's interesting about the USA Bios version of the PS3 console is that it has a built-in automatic voltage switcher to switch from 120v to 240v and is fine for use in any country (provided that you can find the proper A/C outlet cord for the PS3). ^_~
