What do you drink? What are you drinking? Favorites? Stuff you absolutely hate?
I just dropped $150 on a case of DogFishHead 120 minute IPA. It's cooling in the fridge as we speak.

It was like 153 and change. I was kinda disappointed cause it's not what I ordered but I'll take it. I wanted the World Wide Stout which is about the same price (18% ABV) but stuff like the 120 min IPA and the World Wide Stout are basically brewed in one batch a year so you have to get it while you can. Plus, you can age it if you want to. I'll have to remind them earlier next year to get the World Wide.
I love Guinness. Probably my favorite beer. The Sam Smith Imperial Stout I like but not so much the oatmeal stout.

I was out at the Odessey Arena on Thur Night myself for a m8s 21st, had a wee bit too much to drink....did some crazy stuff, m8 pretended he was a car at the traffic lights in the middle of the road started sprinting when he saw the green light at an intersection.

I'd never spend big money on something I planed to consume.

A lot of people are shocked that someone would pay 150 dollars for a case of beer but I don't think it's that big a deal. Maybe it's because I regularly spend $100 or so to make pot brownies or because I'm willing to spend upwards of $500 for a PCB. Regardless, I say fuck it cause it's only money. It'll just get replaced with with my next check and all it means is I won't be able to buy any cds or games for a bit.Diabollokus wrote:

i guess the best of both worlds is murphys irish red, definetly my fave.
other than that i can drink koskenkorva like there is no tomorrow, especially if you mix it up with some cranberry drink or another suitable not-so-sweet juice.
dont think ill ever pass on a gin & tonic either.. mmm.

I'm a big real ale enthusiast, but I've actually stopped boozing for a wee while. I think a post I recently made on another forum might explain why:
Still, I might treat myself to some scrumpy this weekend, and a few Guinness' in between lectures. When I move into a new flat with some friends in July, I'll probably end up right back at square one!
It's also partly because I've permanently (I hope) changed my general diet and am trying to get my sorry carcass fit again.Embarassingly, my conversations are frequently cut short in social situations by a party who, gasping or emitting a sort of startled laugh, feels the need to point out that in the 15 minutes since we entered the bar, I've produced several empty pint glasses. My drinking habits have been described as "like someone's after him, or something" by two ladyfriends, and I tend to always be making several more trips to the bar than my company. I get away with it, because I don't become an aggressive tit (and because I'm a student - it's allowed), but I've never encountered anyone who wasn't taken aback or even offended by my capacity for grog, much less anyone who thought the prospect of playing catch-up attractive. I've never felt like I needed to nip it in the bud, either...

I heard it was the custom in Texas to serve pretty much all light beer with lemon. My dad told me he ordered a Coors light (I held back the urge to smack him for ordering a light beer) in Dallas and they put a lemon wedge on the glass. Any truth to this? The n00b wrote:I usually tend toward mexican beers, my favorite being Corona. Negra Modelo also comes in a close second.
I stay away from hard liquor because I get a buzz really fast off that stuff.

We make our own beer in my house, right now we've got a lavendar/oolong double IPA, a heather scotch ale, a smoked IPA, a couple mocha stouts, a peanut butter cup porter and a couple things we don't have names for.
of the stuff we've brewed the strawberry wheat and the mocha stout with cherry smoked malt are particular favorites, although nothing compares to the pumpkin stout from a couple years ago, it was like syrup.
commercial stuff, Rogue makes pretty decent stuff. Full Sail, Old Rasputin. but generally speaking i never bother buying beer expect for experimental purposes (so like 5 dollars and up a bottle).
can't really abide by lagers.
we drink a lot of wine, reisling being my go to grape (more of an apple than a pear), lots of oregon pinot noir and california chard (my housemate prefers his like a slab of butter on a 2x4). I just started drinking wine alot last fall though so I'm still feeling my way around.
If you're in colorado find some redstone meadery, it's good stuff.
liquor wise, any time there's tequila around i tend to be doing shots of it but i' not a big liquor guy any more. I'll drink it if put infront of me but i don't bother buying it. vodka/cranberry, gin/tonic, rum/coke are my standbys.

I am definitely a lager beer kinda man, with a small preference for the normal Dutch brands (Grolsch, Brand). I usually get the cheap cans of lager though as they are mostly produced by the big companies anyway and taste just as well.
My favourite beer of all however is Duvel, a strong 8% Belgian beer. I mostly drink it on special occasions and when out on a in town. They tend to get to the head pretty fast though, especially after sitting on a terras in summer.
As for the real booze, I like some straight Vodka once in a while. When younger, me and a friend of mine planned ourselves a "Vodka night" once in a while, where we´d both drink Vodka until we eventually always passed out.

Belgian beer, Italian wine, Agricole rum. It sounds like a cheap advertisement but it's basically true.

Dogfishhead is teh awesome! Got some old school in my fridge. Been drinking lots of heavy imports (and chillin' with some Hennessy), but there's honestly nothing on freshly brewed local beer. I've learned this the hard way. Live near a local brewer or plan on drinking lots of preservatives.Acid King wrote:What do you drink? What are you drinking? Favorites? Stuff you absolutely hate?

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I'm normally a wuss that avoids dark beer, but I used to enjoy a local bar that served a lot of different weird and imported beers (and featured the musical stylings of a fat guy playing ragtime songs on the piano), but it shut down a few years back after a smoking ban was put into effect (a courtesy to all those health conscious alcoholics out there).
Having said that, I very rarely drink "real" beer anymore. As I mentioned in another thread, I usually either drink really cheap stuff (PBR, Steel Reserve, etc.) or something a notch better than Bud and Miller and all that crap (like Killian's, Molson, or Amber Bock). The only time I drink light beer is when it's served at parties (because hey, free beer).

Best beer in the world:

Apart from that I also enjoy wines (mainly Burgundy and German Rieslings).
My favorite long drink is quite obscure:

Tantakatan (shiso-leaf liquor from Kyoto) mixed with cranberry juice. I highly recommend it to anybody in Japan!
EDIT:
Stuff I hate:
- Sangria
- Tequila
- 90% of California wines
- Anything creamy (like Baileys)

An interesting topic!
My 3 beer fridges currently have:
Molson Canadian
Killians
Heinekin
Bass
Bell's Winter White Ale
Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat
Budweiser
Labatt Blue
Arrogant Bastard Ale - still standing as my favorite beer for four absurd reasons:
1. The logo

2. The motto:
"You're Not Worthy"
3. The back of every bottle:
"This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory --- maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dllar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this."
4. 7.2%
Anyway, god bless RWfriends

For beer I'm usually drinking Sapporo or Kirin. I really like the Japanese brews. I also like Moosehead, Pyramid Hefeweizen, and Gordon Biersch Marzen.
For wine I like a good Pinot Noir and sometimes Chardonnay.
I don't drink too much hard liquor, though I'll never pass up a good Bloody Mary or some Grand Marnier (my fave).

I had Arrogant Bastard once at the bar I mentioned above, I bought it on name alone. Ugh, hated it (got a kick out of the bottle, though). That was a few years ago though, maybe I should give it another shot one of these days.
One beer I forgot to mention is Dortmunder Gold from the Great Lakes Brewing Company (based in Cleveland). It's pretty good, but I don't know how far they distribute it.

Some favorites: Sour Vodka, Captain Morgan and Coke/Root Beer/Dr Pepper/Pepsi or whatever, Vodka and Mt Dew, White Russians, and Jaegermeister for shots. I like my alcoholic lime rickies too. Sprite/7Up + grape puckers + vodka + a slice of lime.
Irish Car Bombs are good too. Bottle of Guinness + shot of irish whiskey + shot of irish cream. Drop the shot of irish cream, shotglass and all, and chug it fast (if you don't, the irish cream has this weird coagulation/foaming effect with the beer).

Well bars are very unique in Texas how they serve their beers. I know Corona is frequently served with a lemon wedge. Maybe the practice just spread to other beers? I've also heard of a few dark Mexican beers being served with lemon wedges too. Is this supposed to be some traditional Texas or Mexican hangover prevention cure or something? Maybe an effort to make a beer look healthy courtesy of the hippies in Austin?Acid King wrote:I heard it was the custom in Texas to serve pretty much all light beer with lemon. As for the Coors light, I can't see why your dad would order that. I mean you're in Texas and you can pick from the best of American and Mexican beers, frequently on the cheap, and you choose a Coor's light?
